Braised steak in cream & garlic sauce. Fy (to seal) cubes or slices of braising steak and half moons of onion. Add garlic (to taste, two cloves or more for me) Braise in oven, slow cooker, or pressure cooker. Thicken with approx 1tbs tom puree and add cream.

    Hi Chardonay,

There's an older thread that should give you some ideas:

how to use up single cream?

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

  • I am pretty sure you can freeze single cream, so you could just pop it in the freezer and take it out next time you want to use it.

Any ideas? I got a pt of double and pt of single at christmas and got the single left. DH had a good slosh on last of mince pie tonight, but still have best part of a pint left.

DD has made rum truffles this afternoon, her recipe called for egg yolks (5) so I have 5 whites left over, guess that's pavlova or meringue shells!

    Hi purpleivy,

There's an older thread with lots of ideas for using up single cream that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

For using the egg whites you might get some ideas from this thread:

Slice some potatoes thinly, layer into a cassorole dish (possibly putting some sliced onions between layers), put salt and pepper and maybe sliced garlic between layers. Then pour over the cream (you want the cream to be at least half way up the pile of potatoe layers - add some milk if not). then stick a lid on and put in the oven (abut 180c) for about an hour until the potatoes are soft. you can put cheese over th top to make it into a meal or have it as a side dish.

Although you can't freeze single cream as it is, when I get it reduced I make up thick creamy cheese sauces which can be frozen and used on pasta, cauliflower or as the base for a soup.
