  • Agree on pets at home wood pellets, although the bag is very big and you'll need a car to transport it home. I compared the price per kg with B&N and its about the same, but a bigger bag so you are buying it less often.
Our cat is 18 and used to clumping litter so I mix it 50/50 with tesco value as I'm not sure she'd cope with a complete change. Tesco value clumps like concrete though so I find that if I mix it with the pellets then its easier to get out of the tray when it needs removing!
  • Don't know if anyone has mentioned this previously, but we shred the cardboard cat food boxes in a shredder to use as cat litter. They do get stuck to cats' feet and travel around the house but no more so that other cat litter really, plus it's technically free and eco friendly - we compost the used stuff

I wouldn't use anything other than Oko Plus.

Its made from a byproduct of paper manufacturing so it is paper, so could be flushed down the loo if necessary (I used to when I lived in a high rise flat) Its clums but doesnt 'harden' so can be scooped out easily, and never requires a 'full change' so is cost effective

I have 3 large cats and I buy a 40l bag from Zooplus which costs between £20-23 depending on offers. That can last me easily 3-4 months.

What is the most eco friendly cat litter. And the worst? I am using or was as they have just gone into administration the eco pellets from poundworld. My mum has used the corn stuff before.

The clumping stuff isn’t good for cats lungs I believe and that is why I don’t buy it. Clay litter in particular can exacerbate allergies.

We use Tesco’s Clumping Cat Litter £4.20 for our 3 cats. They have two large litter boxes (with lids).

Husband used to deal with the single large box when we had one cat. That changed when I realised he was only changing the litter once each week. He was not clearing any deposits in between. This upset me hugely as cats are very clean.

I clear one litter box 2-3 times daily. Husband does the other box each evening. A bag of litter will last 2-3 weeks per litter box.

Moral of story: clear litter box at least twice each day; your cat will be very pleased AND you’ll buy less litter😻😻😻

Oh wow! How could he handle the smell?? I'm there with the little bag and scooper before my cats even finished his poo! :rotfl:

I use morrisons clumping litter though one bag seems to last forever now the cat goes outside. I keep the litter tray just incase he needs it in the night.
  • Lidl's own is good.

Not good for cats lungs though. As for someone scooping poop before the cat has finished. Don’t you think that’s a tad over the top

It's not the cheapest but personally I like sanicat oxygen power clumping. We remove solids and clumps daily and find it lasts a few weeks. Also it's one of the less smelly ones we've tried. Tried wood pellets and Catsan but I find they get smelly faster so need changing sooner.
Didn't know about the lungs thing- how big is the risk?

Another vote for Oko. 'Cheap' doesn't necessarily mean 'best value'. Our downstairs loo leads off the utility room - so it literally takes just two steps to transfer the lumpy bits from the tray to the toilet.
