Best cheap cat litter?

  • Have you calculated how much does it cost you per week with 3 cats please?

Cheaper price per bag is not necessary cheper to use - I always calculate cost of litter used per week/month/per number of cats.

With 4 now, 1 bag of GG lasts me say 15 days so 2 bags per month (less really but for the sake of calculation) so £19.99 per month for 4 cats so it works out at £4.60 per week for 4 cats so really about £1 per week per cat.

In fact, I would say it is about 80 pernse per cat per week - using Golden Grey with 4 cats at home.

I use two bags a week, and it's £2.99 per bag so that's £23.92 per month, £5.98 per week and just about £1.99 per cat per week. Now whilst that's almost double what it costs you per cat, as I stated in my original post, my cats have problems. IBD, diabetes and kidney failure do not a happy litterbox make - my IBD cat can poo up to 3 times a day, and my other two can pee just as frequently, and when kidney failure cat pees, his clumps can reach the size of a child's head - I kid you not.

So for the amount of damage that the litterbox takes, I am very impressed by this litter - it works out to 37pence a litre, if anyone's interested in price per kilo.

Gold Dust - I only look at cost per month not per bag.

As you see, the bags you get are cheaper but cost per month for 3 cats is much higher than mine for 4 cats - despite my litter being more expensive "by bag".

It is actually £25.91 per month if you are using 2 bags at £2.99 a bag per week ;)

    Try GG once ;)

Oh dear, no cat san, hated it too...

I guess for some people who only have 1 cat - any litter will do.

It is those of use who have multiple cats that have to look for really best options...

I used to use those Catsan all in one things. A liner that fitted over the litter tray and with litter on top and an absorbent mat fitted in the bottom. They were expensive but with three on the go it was a Godsend.

Sadly I lost two of my furry friends this time last year and number three has reverted to going outside again. Not one accident since.

We use 1 bag of GG per month for 2 cats. Found out that OH chucked half a tray of it in the bin when he gave the trays a clean when we first started using it. Works out at £1.25 per week per cat, it will be less than that as I've only just started to use the second bag now so the first bag actually lasted 5 weeks. The clumping is still brilliant, hardly any small lumps and the tracking isn't too bad but the litter tray that's used the most is on a 1m by 50cm mat which catches most of the stray litter

Yup, I use 2 bags per month for 4 cats so £20.00 per month, brilliant me thinks - considering the fact my cats only go out at the weekends (in winter - dark when I get home after work :() so only pee/poo in the trays...

For one cat the GG would be just a fiver per month :)
  • Still finding the tracking with GG an issue :(

Sure the last lot of BK (looks the same on the Zoo+ site but different packaging when it arrives) is different - it doesn't seem to clump as well and seems ...... I don't know, just different

Anyone else using it finding a difference?

Thinking might have to switch Archie to GG too ..... but just the beeping tracking .....

  • Seems to be a problem just now - I've been trying to place an order for over a fortnight but there's several things I want out of stock (check daily & have it on email notification so they've def not been back in)

Getting a bit annoyed as I'm getting to the point that I'll either have to order minus quite a few bits (to get in time for Christmas) OR have to wait until after Christmas ...... (which will be a PITA)

  • What exactly is supposed to happen to urine in a non-clumping cat litter? How are you supposed to dispose of it? Just scoop out the dirty litter? It pools in the bottom of the tray and causes all kinds of grief!! I hate the stuff with a passion! (We're fresh out of litter and my brother bought the non-clumping kind. Sigh.)
