Tell you what OP, if benefits is best why don't you take my heart and I'll take yours?

A heart muscle with dead bits due to infection (will also need a pacemaker but you can have mine) will get you £240 ish every 4 weeks in DLA. If you work for over 30 hours getting the same pay I do you can also get about £175 every 4 weeks in Working Tax Credit. You'll get a free bus pass (handy when you're disqualified from driving), help travelling to work (if you can sort it out, I've been at it over 6 weeks and it's still a mess) and you'll only need 12 pills a day to crack on with it.

You're getting quite a bargain, I'll keep the hearing loss as well so you don't need to struggle to get hearing aids that wont interfere with your pacemaker.

Aye, you and me both Jen - surely I must be a fraudster!

I'm now on ESA and higher rate mobility/higher rate care DLA and I went canoeing the other week, and I've just had half a bottle of wine, damn me for having a life despite being "terminally ill"

See I haven't given up yet, because life is for living. There may be people out there taking the p!ss but there are also a lot of genuinely ill/disabled people who are grabbing at life with both hands and making the most of every little opportunity they can wring out of it. I think it's fair enough if you wanna tell the DWP if you suspect someone is fibbing, but don't expect that your assumptions are definitely going to be correct, because you may well be wrong!

True ,but they may well be right:eek:

Perhaps but i felt i had to speak up that her reasoning (the physical activity) was faulty, and if her reasoning is faulty she basically just reported her on random chance. *shrugs*

It depends on personal circumstance, as long as your not doing activities that you say are detrimental because of your condition it should be fine, I would say your more entitled to join because of dla, disabled people generally need to maintain some form of suitable physical activity or there condition will often get worse(and they generally get unfit a lot faster then the average healthy person), hence the schemes available.

OP should look into the concept of pacing and grading if she's not familiar, it may interest her given her line of work. :j

I too think you are all being a bit unfair on the OP. If you think they are a fraud report it. I haven't a clue how you know what the claimant gets, do they advertise it?

I took the same steps a while ago, as there was a cohort of mothers who once they had worked out that the value of the benefit one of them got for claiming certain “illnesses” that their child had, all came out in the same catching condition for their kids. This devalued the truly ill child and the help they got. They were open about it, claiming the condition stopped their kids being able to go out unescorted and needing HRM for the obligatory 7 seater. Yet, these same kids terrorised the neighbourhood outside of School hours (when they went). Therefore, I reported them. The DWP checked them out in whatever manner they do after a while and must have found them to be claiming wrongfully. All the cars have gone, there is a local witch-hunt looking for the grass! However, the kid who is genuinely ill still gets benefit and they still have their car. This is a good thing.

I talk to the original mother regularly, the kid has genuine problems. Was reporting the wrong doers (I expect to be judged on here as to what is right and wrong etc…) right? None of their kids had the problems they presented on claim forms or to the health care experts I assume. One was in the paper having been prosecuted for working cash in hand too.

I am not saying the OP is right, or the responders who have had a go are too. There are genuine claims and fraudulent claims, it is for the DWP to decide.

I agree with this. There's no point in coming onto a forum like this, where there are plenty of genuinely disabled people, and having a go. How's it going to make us feel? If anyone feels fraud is being committed then they should quietly inform the DWP and leave them to sort it out.

    I agree.

But I also agree that the person who intends to make a report to DLA should first stop and honestly question their motives.

Over the past months I have helped three people to deal with DLA reviews as a result of being reported. I know these people personally and I also know that they are genuinely disabled. All get high rate mobility for genuine reasons and one is so disabled that she also gets high rate care.

They were all investigated and yes, they were eventually informed that the DLA award is correct and will continue. But it took around three months to come to this decision, and in the meantime caused a huge amount of stress and anxiety for the people concerned, and also for their carers. One lady was so badly affected that she is still housebound weeks later (we think she was reported after one of her rare outings to a local cafe).

So yes, I am in favour of reporting the people who ski/run marathons/work as a referee/etc while claiming DLA, but at the same time even sick and disabled people should be encouraged to socialise and remain active within their capabilities and with the consent of their medical advisers.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

Oh :( I think it's really unfair if the DWP tell people that they're being investigated. Surely there's no need, all it's going to do is stress genuine claimants out and forewarn the fraudsters so they can hide their fraudulent activities.

I was recently awarded HRC and HRM but I intend to be as active as possible for as long as I can. I adore being active and pushing myself, before I was diagnosed with cancer I used to regularly cycle and climb mountains when I was well enough (despite serious spinal problems and a benign brain tumour). I wrote on my DLA form that I don't need a blue badge and enjoy walking and being active when I can, and they have it all documented that this is what I hope to continue with. I'm not a p!sstaker, just someone who is supposedly terminally ill but intends to live anyway. I was surprised to be awarded HRM as well as HRC, and although that makes me eligible for a blue badge or even a motability car I won't be applying for them. I would feel like a fraud if I did!
