I've just started trying to reclaim from Woolwich. Going over the statements I can find I'm looking at more than 5K. Do I still head for small claims court or is there such a thing as big or bigger claims court?
I watch all threads with baited breath.

Hi all, new to this forum though I'm been visiting the website for months.
I don't know if this will work for everybody but, when my sister and I sent the initial letter asking for the breakdown of charges we sited the freedom of information act and got our breakdowns for free. Like I said, I don't know if it will work for everybody, or if all banks will do it. Both of us were with the Woolwich (until they closed our accounts!)
good luck all.:D0 -
Hi all - quick update . Last posted 24/01/07. didn't quite know what to do after the offer of £1,000 but decided to make a phone call to Barclays as all the correspondence was now coming from them. Spoke to a really pleasant chap who increased the offer to £1850.00 which I thought about and then accepted. Should be in my account by the end of this week. I started corresponding with the Woolwich but ended up dealing with Barclays head office. Don't be put off by the double act it all ends up at Barclays.
Good luck to you all and thanks for all the assistance on these pages

Last posted on the 15th after Barclays said they would take 4 weeks.
Well ,today 20th an offer of Full & Final arrived for £1000 , we are accepting it its just about a 1/3rd of what the original charges were, we're happy with that.
Good luck to all and thanks to everyone on here for your help.

Well done, please post on the Success Stories thread. As regards cc you just need to change the wording of the bank templates to read you are claiming for late payment fees and/or over limit fees.0

Please could someone answer my question? I wrote to woolwich bank asking them to repay £7000 back in bank charges, they wrote back and said they would offer me £1000 as a good gesture and offer no more i stupidly took this offer as i got scared but had to sign a letter saying this would be the end of the matter and accept the £1000.
Can i go back to them to claim the rest and threaten them with court action or have i lost this extra amount the bank took?
I would be grateful if someone could answer this for me as soon as they could as this is eating away at me knowing bank still has £6000 of my money.0 -

 Here we go. A timeline of reclaiming from Woolwich.
30th Jan.
Asked for a list of my charges from my local branch. Very helpful, had already experienced quite a few similar requests! New procedure imposed by HQ since last time tho'.
15th Feb.
Recieved letter from a DT thanking me for my enquiry and I would find enclosed requested statements. Nothing enclosed. A sign of things to come?
23rd Feb.
Return from holiday to discover the above and straight onto their Customer Relations Dept. (0208 298 4044) who again were very helpful. A LL apologised and asked how she could best get the docs to me. Agreed to fax them to my local branch so I could pick them up next am.
24th Feb.
Picked up statements and worked out charges. Just run them thru' interest calculator on this site and I'm looking at £8789 + £2802int. A total of £11592, almost double what I expected!!!!!!! First letter will be posted RD Monday morning. Watch this space.:beer:0 -
Hi
An update on my Woolwich claim ...
We received a letter from Barclays offering us £1000 as full and final settlement for our claim (which by the way is £2652.00). We decided not to accept this, as quite frankly, why should we?
Anyway, what has annoyed me more is that now Barclays are only addressing their letters to my hubbie (the claim in question is in joint names, and I have always written and signed them - this is just plain rude in my book!
My hubbie decided to give them a final chance to settle on Friday (four days after the deadline for filing on MCOL expired), but the guy he spoke to at Barclays said that all senior people who made the decisions on this were too busy to talk to him, and he basically tried to out us off by saying that we shouldn't listen to all the hype in the press etc about people winning all of their money back, as (and I quote) "it is quite likely we will not win and will end up with none of the money back"!!! So, now Barclays have trained their staff to try and put people off eh ... cunning ... !
Well, hey ho, that's a risk we're going to take, but reading this site, there are far more successes than failures! I just need to be bold and stand my ground now (my hubbie is now very miffed with them and says we're taking nothing less than what we're owed) ...
So, tomorrow I am filing our case on MCOL, and reluctantly paying the £120 at the same time (hopefully we'll get this back if it gets to court) ...
So, wish us luck!
Has anybody any Woolwich successes they wish to pass on to re-assure me we're doing the right thing??!!!!
Thanks, and best of luck to all!0 -
