Anyway, what has annoyed me more is that now Barclays are only addressing their letters to my hubbie (the claim in question is in joint names, and I have always written and signed them - this is just plain rude in my book!
    !

I forgot about that , our letters were jointly addressed to us until Barclays started replying, ,

    I agree it is rude

    Hi Jb,
Thats good news as some of us have had less co-operation. I hope you have a smooth ride right to the cheque landing through your door ;-)

However, its probably boring if the banks capitualate that easily, lol.

    Hi all,

Well, received a full ist of charges applied to the account from The Woolwich yesterday! 4 1/2 pages worth, totalling a shade over £5,000 :)

So the 1st 'can I have my money please' letter will be on it's way very soon.

I also noticed the bit in Martins' Tips email about the FSA making a ruling in April? As I understand it, any claims in progress before this date won't be affected by any rulings made by the FSA... is that correct?

Or will I have had to take them to court (if it gets that far!) before the ruling is made? - any info will be welcome.

More as it happens, and thanks again to Martin & the team on the forums for inspiring me to 'Take on the Big Boys' ! ;)

Digital TV, Broadband & Phone requirements - around £50 pm saved !
Don't let them Estimate! Gave Powergen a 'real reading' & got £122.16 back that I'd overpaid!
Mortgage Exit fee - £100 received from the Halifax - for just a phone call!
Woolwich - received £3,845 refund of bank charges :)
  • Hi I have followed the steps on the site for reclaimimg my bank charges and have sent of my first letter to the WOOLWICH along with my cheque for £10 which they have returned to me saying they will respond to my complaint by 23/03/07.
My question is why have they returned the payment and does this affect the course of action i want to pursue ie if i accept the payment back will it render my claim void etc i havent got a clue wat they are up to and just wondered if anyone had had the same experience please let me know thanks alot

A lot of the banks are not charging the £10 for the information/statements. They have 40 days to produce the information.
  • Hi, we are in the middle of a reclaim case with Woolwich/Barclays and they are proving difficult, I wondered if anyone could reassure me!
They had taken £4800 in charges in 3 years (most of it 'snowball' charges) and I sent a letter asking for the money back. They sent a reply offering £1000 which I did not think was enough so I sent another stating that i would be prepared to accept half of the original amount (without prejudice of course), but if I did not hear anything within another 14 days i would take the matter further. Of course I did not hear anything so I started an online Moneyclaim (which cost £120 I could ill afford to lose).
They acknowledged just before the end of the 14 days so gained another 14 days. The day after the last of the 28 days I had heard nothing so started the judgement only to get a letter the next day to say that they had entered a defence 2 days previous even though It did not show up on Moneyclaim. When I checked online I found my judgement had been rejected due to Barclays entering their defence on the very last day.
SO now the case is being transferred to a local court, and it is worrying me.
Will this cost me more money?
    Will I have to attend?
What if I lose - will I have to pay costs?
How likely are Barclays to pay up?
Please can someone offer me advice?

    Thanks

    Hi Christmas Fairy!
Sounds like you're a step or so ahead of us ... we've just lodge our file with MCOL, and so half expect the same situation as you've had.
Stick to your guns, you have NOTHING to lose, and £2k to gain if you are willing to accept half of your original claim ... !!!
You're not going to court because you've broken the law, it's Barclays / Woolwich who have the defending and explaining to do! You're just reclaiming what is rightfully yours!
(by the way, I'm saying this all confident now, but when our time comes, I'll be shaking in my boots too I know!)
Talk about cutting it fine though, they know how to try and pull your strings. If you need some inspriation, Martin's video on reclaiming is great, and makes you realise why you're doing this - I found it really helpful ...
Anyway, all the best, and keep us posted on how it goes ...
  • Thanks for the kind words of encouragement - its scary taking on a big company!
I will look at the video as you suggest - and let you know what happens next.
    Thanks Again
  • hello all!
There doesnt seem to be many posting on the woolwich thread so though I would post and let you know how far I have go so far.......
19/02/07-phoned woolwich to ask for last 6yrs statements, lady on phone very helpfull, told me they do not charge for this and will send me out my statements asap.
21/02/07-received standard letter of complaint through post. I phoned bank told them that I hadnt made a complaint, just requested charges for last 6 years. Was told by very helpfull and polite man that all these requests are being treated this way and my statements would be with me within 7 days.
2/03/07-phoned bank to ask why I had not received statements, eventually put through to customer relations and nice lady said that they were completely snowed under and I would receive list of all charges and offer of a refund by 19th march.

We will wait and see...Oh by the way lady at customer relations gave me direct number to dept dealing with bank refunds 01255477032.
    Halifax- settled £1800 (spent)
    Woolwich settled £505 (spent)
    Capital 1- settled £1345 after defending on mcol (aw:j :j :j
