Woolwich Bank Charges (merged)

Just about to start on this - can I just ask if you are better writing to ask for your statements or if it is ok to ring them up and ask if it is a closed account?
Thanks0 -
I'd try the phone number above first
Its only once you start claiming that its best to have it in writing.

Hi again,
Today was "D-Day for the Woolwich or Barclays to reply before I lodge my court case.
I decided to give them both a final chance, as Woolwich have now passed our file to Barclays for review.
Anyway, I EVENTUALLY got through to Barclays on their helpline number
(0800 282 390), and they gave me the fax number for their Customer Relations people in London. It is: 0207 116 7563.
I sent a fax over just now with all relevant letters, breakdown of charges etc, and I have (very kindly I think!) extended my deadline to 5pm tomorrow
(16th February).
I am rather hoping that they will contact me before then, as I don't really want to go down the court case road, but £2652.00 is a lot of money I can well do with getting back!!!
Anyway, good luck to any other Money Savers who are trying to fathom out Woolwich and Barclays!!!

sound to me like your one or two steps ahead of us here with the woolbarclays tennis match ,
we've just started getting passed about. Does our story this sound familair to you?
Our saga so far has been ,
sent first letter asking for staments - 02/01/07
the woolwich replied on 17th jan - with the details of all charges to our account,
we wrote back our request asking for repayment on 19th jan
they replied on 23rd jan,
thank you for telling us about your dissatis.....
...we aim to resolve this mater by 20th FEB
then
5th feb from Woolwich
in view of the complex nature .............& we are being passed to Barclays
Now Today -15th
we hear from Barclays
Thanks for your recent letter ........your comments are receiving attention......aim to find a solution within 4 weeks......
and a nice how to complain booklet explaining it all, apart from who to contact to complain about being passed about .
Does this sound similar to you ?
Do we wait the 4 weeks ,we havent yet said anything about court procedings yet.
Any advice ?

Hi have just started to try and claim money back from the Woolwich, I have £2000 overdraft. I have opened a new bank account using their switching facility which automatically closes my old account, this is going ahead much quicker than I expected, my question to anyone is...if my new bank closes my old account before I have reclaimed the charges can I still claim them back?0

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is you can claim back any charges from any account from the last six years, regardless of whether the account is live or closed.
Hope that helps.0 -

I've shifted your post into the Woolwich thread so you can keep an eye on other people's claims with Woolwich.
You can still go ahead with your claim even if the account is closed.0 -
Thanks for your quick response, I'm a newbie so all help appreciated. Will keep watching the site, some useful stuff here.:starmod:0

Hi Hamsterpoo!
Yes, this is exactly the same routine as me!
I have threatened them with court action twice, and even in the fax I sent them yesterday I gave them until 5pm today. I even gave them my mobile number in the last two threatening letters, and they haven't called. In the last letter I got from Barclays "Retail Customer Relations Director", he states that "he cannot guarantee that they will meet the timescale I have set out"!!! Well, tough now, because at each level, they have exceeded the timescales by at least a week!
So, my mission this weekend is to get the court action rolling - scary, but necessary now I think. Why should I wait up to 8 weeks for them to send me a report???!! They're damned quick enough to write and put the charges on so the shoe will be on the other foot now!!!!
My only hope is that when I lodge this file with the court (I'm going to do it online with Moneyclaim), they will not bother replying in the obligatary 14 days and I will win by default - I doubt a court will let them take 8 weeks to compile a pile of excuses!!!
So, anyway, in answer to your question, I would write to them threatening court action now, as I just don't think they will make any effort to reply within the 8 weeks without it. You never know, a few more threats and they might realise that people won't stand for their slack any more!
It's then entirely up to you how fast you work, and how quickly you want to take things - I feel I have been fair with them, and am not going to let them have their eight weeks, but you may feel differently ....
Keep me posted, and I'll keep you up to date if I have any developments!!!
Best of luck and "bring it on Barclays"!!!!
