  • Hi there

After reading Martin's article I decided to try and reclaim my charges from the Woolwich. The account has been closed for just over a year (The Woolwich closed the account because I couldnt get out of red because of the escalating charges , about £240 ).
Sent first letter on 30/11/06 - received reply from Barclays saying there would be no charge for the information requested. Received letter from Woolwich next day saying would get reply by 8th Jan.
Received letter with all charges listed dated 13th Dec.
Sent letter requesting payment (2,178.00) on 19/12/06.
Received letter from Woolwich 28 DecemberThanking me for taking the trouble to contact them and that they would be contacting me before 25th Jan 2007.
I wasn't happy with their response so sent another letter reiterating my claim and asking for an answer within 7 days on 6th Jan or I would commence court proceedings.
Received a letter from the woolwich dated 11 Jan saying very sorry to hear of the problems I have experienced and that my case has been passed to a Case Manager.
Received a letter next day from Case Manager saying in view of the complex nature of the issue my complaint has now been escalated to our Head Office Customer Relations Unit.
Received letter from Barclays dated 16 Jan saying that they aim to find a solution to my problem within four weeks/ a full report or update on their progress within 8 weeks . - Please refer to enclosed leaflet etc.

    That's it up to date

Question is do I wait for them or do I carry on with the court claim as I threatened in my last letter ?

Any help would be greatfully accepted.
  • Carry on with your timescale and don't wait 4/8 weeks :)

I'll just pop this into the Woolwich thread to help others claiming from them.

    Hi All,

some great stuff on the site as a whole, but as a Woolwich customer of, ooh, must be over 15 years this looks like one of the threads I'll be watching!

After reading HP's message regarding the first letter they have received - thanks for the address by the way - just being nosey and wondering what it said?

Was it a 'computer printed' reply? or a real person (gasp!) and did they keep your £10 cheque to cover the cost of the charge information (assuming that's the letter you're on about of course!)

I'm just about to embark on the process myself, and will post the details here if it might help others. It looks like we might end up dealing with Barclays though, judging by some of the other replys (not a big fan of Barclays - so don't have a problem asking them for my charges back, hehe)

    Cheers,

    Web_wiz :)
Digital TV, Broadband & Phone requirements - around £50 pm saved !
Don't let them Estimate! Gave Powergen a 'real reading' & got £122.16 back that I'd overpaid!
Mortgage Exit fee - £100 received from the Halifax - for just a phone call!
Woolwich - received £3,845 refund of bank charges :)
  • Hi all ,
Just returned home from working away for a few days. Found letter from Barclays offering £1,000.00 as a goodwill gesture ,in full and final settlement. I don't think I am going to accept this. Is it worth another letter or do I go straight to the moneyclaim process or maybe even a phone call ?
  • Hi... I am about to start trying to claim back my partners bank charges from the Woolwich. I looked at the list of addresses to write to the bakns, and the only Woolwich one was for Openplan, which his account is not. Does anyone know if I still write to them, or to Barclays (as I believe they are part of Barclays). Any help would be great. Thanx

If you are unsure of the address to use. You can send all your letters to your local branch. They will forward these onto the relevent department. Send all your post by signed for delivery so you can prove they received it (this will stop them saying they haven't had your letter).

Hello to you all.Can I just say that this site is a godsend and thanks to you Martin and you all.

I sent the 1st letter to the Woolwich on the 25thJan recorded with a £10 cheque. On Saturday 27thJan I received a letter from them with my £10 cheque uncashed but stamped with the date 26 JAN 2007 on the back.

The letter they sent me mentioned absolutely nothing about my request for charges but went on to thank me for taking the time and trouble to tell them about my dissatisfaction.

I only sent the 1st letter as per the one from this site with my details.

They go on to say they have taken responsibility for fully investigating the issues I have raised and that they aim to resolve the matter by 23 February 2007!

Do I send the cheque and 1st letter again? It cost me a £1.00 to send it the first time.

Please help as I'm so unsure what to do.

    Kind regards Chris.
  • They have 40 days to send you the information you asked for but it does sound as if this is a standard complaint letter you have received so probably worth phoning them to make sure they realise what you are asking for.

Some banks are returning the £10 cheques.
