Woolwich Bank Charges (merged)
Comments
-
We have made a claim with the woolwich for charges amounting to £1142 the woolwich have agreed to refund £180 which is the proportion that falls within 6 years. The other amount relates to the beginning of 2000 and is therefore just outside the six year limit.
1. Would you accept the £180 and be done with it
2. If it is proved that the banks acted unlawfully in taking this money would that not constitute a crime and therefore would the six year rule still apply?
At the end of the day £180 is better than nothing and would help us out at the moment. Any suggestions or opinions please.0 -
Have become addicted to this site over the last month or so but particularly in the last few days and now feeling positive about getting on the road towards debt free.
I am intending claiming charges from the Woolwich and have opened a Nationwide account (well, had it approved and waiting for my card) in case the Woolwich close my account (it is a basic cashcard with the account but assume if necessary I would be able to transfer DD and SOs to that account - as I wasn't transferring my Woolwich account when I applied to open the Nationwide one I didn't fill in the details for that section).
I can find nothing on the site (or rather maybe I haven't gone in the right place!) about people's success with the Woolwich, so that is my first question. Any experience of dealing with the Woolwich anyone?
Secondly, if they do close my account, can they demand that my o/d (£2500) is paid off straight away? Even if I do get the fees back they will be a few hundred so not enough to pay back the o/d, and I do not have the money to do so.
Likewise if I claim back from the cc companies - if I claim the fees can they demand that I pay off the balance immediately? I have 3 cards, two with agreements for paying back the outstanding amount, and the other which I have managed ok other than a few late payments.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I am keen to get the ball rolling but want to be a bit clearer about the road ahead first!
ThanksProud to be dealing with my debts0 -
I recently recieved a statement of charges on my Woolwich openplan account but these only go back as far as October 2002 and i am sure that some charges were incurred prior to this date. I have queried this with the Woolwich and they assure me these are all the charges. It has now occured to me that around about this date my account was changed from a normal current account to an Openplan account, the account number and sort code remained the same. Has anyone had experience of this that can advise a way forward. I intend to pursue the Woolwich for the charges shown on there statemant of charges and chase any charges prior to October 2002 when i can identify them, is this the correct method? Any advise will be gratefully recieved.

Hiya! This is my first post, but I've been thinking about this for a long time!
I was declined a mortgage last year from the woolwich, but they still took the £495 arrangement fee.. I've sent the letter today to reclaim it back plus £37 interest...
What are my chances?? Anyone had any dealings with the woolwich before? Thanks in advance for any advice!:heart2:Debt free wannabe:heart2:0 -
Firstly, hello to you all
I am a newbie and would love to try this and claim back my charges like a lot of you have already done.
My current acc is with the woolwich. I know they used to be a building soc and not a bank.
They have now merged with Barclays.( does this mean that they are a bank now)
I looked on the help thread with all the addresses for me to send the first letter but there is no address for woolwhich.
Does this mean that i can't do it with them?
any advice would be welcomed please.0 -

I have decided to bite the bullet and ask for my Woolwich charges back but cannot see their details on the list of Data Protection address to write to. As they have been taken over by Barclays do i write to that address or shall i just write to Woolwich head office?
Also has anyone had success in getting their info under the data protection act without sending the 10 pound fee.0 -
If you Google Woolwich and then go into the Contact Us page it leads to Barclays Bank so I would suggest you use the Barclays address in the list.0

Im claiming from the Woolwich. I posted firstly to my branch, who passed it on to their HQ, who then passed it on to Barclays Head Office Customer Relations in London.0
