Hi everyone :) I am trying to plan my garden this year, and I know what I want to grow and have already started some things off. I am just after some advice really on what I can grow with what!

Just to give you an idea of my set up, due to extreme rabbit population here I have to grow off the floor and my vegetable patch consists of 1000ltr IBC containers cut in half  just to keep the little blighters off everything! I have also invested in a greehouse :j Last year we only used one container, so I am filling the others to go into *mass* production this year :rotfl: I am planning on growing:

potatoes (planning on going in last years one and only soil filled ibc - grew beetroot, carrots and a squash in there last year is that ok?)
    onions
    parsnips
    leeks
    french beans
    Tomatoes (going in greenhouse)
    Chillis (greenhouse)
    Aubergines(greenhouse)
    Courgettes
    Butternut squash
    beetroot
    radish

Can anyone tell me what is best to grow with each other in the containers please? (They are approx 1.5m squared). I am planning on growing the parsnips in large buckets (no manure) filled with a sand and compost mix, will this work or will it have to be pure sand? And can I use builders sand? If not a suitable suggestion please?

Sorry for all the questions :o but I'd really like to make a go of this this year as OH is a veggie and it would be nice to know where most of our food came from! :D

Thanks in advance and all advice welcomed :A

I used to have a plastic thing.. Until a wind destroyed it and now I got new pots/raised beds I haven't got the space for it. But I suppose I could just try and get hold of some big glass bottle or something and put it over each plant until the summer comes... I only have a space for 2-3 plants anyway.. If one could just guarantee we finally get nice summer! The last two were pants up here.

    That's an idea.. Getting excited!

pop along to any big office , or your local dentists

ask them for a Water cooler bottle, they are nice and big and make lovely cloches

Yes but they are also reused and owned by the water cooler people.

Be happy that something at least is being reused and not thrown away :)

    Hi

Wilkinsons have a pvc cover for 4 tier mini greenhouse at £4.48, and polyethylene only at £5.98 dimensions as follows

    Depth:50cm Height:158cm Size:4Tier Width:70cm

Don't think we originally got our from Wilko but going to try it anyway.

Oh I am, I didn't mean it like that!. I did the sad face for the poster who wanted the bottle, however they would be re-using it also to an extent as a cloche! ha!.
I'm all for recycling we do all our tins, glass bottles, jars, paper for curb side collection (campaigning for plastic bottle collection as our council don't do it) so all plastic bottles & ceral boxes go to my sons school for model making (luckily he doesn't ever want to do one ;)) Oh, & empty toilet rolls for my onions peas etc:).

Right, ordered Nemaslug. I have tried pellets last years in the beds and copper tape around the pots. This year, since we are having so many more beds, I am giving a try to these. Will see how it works!

Following Sally's advice I've this morning got my Parsnip seeds soaking on paper towel in 2 large tubs so fingers crossed this method will work for me - love Parsnips but never had success getting them to germinate.;)
