pea maggots!! oh no. Ignorance was bliss. I`ll open up every sugar snap now, before I eat it
re parsnips, they are best sown in situ 3 seeds to a station and then leave only one. Germination is very eratic. Some gladiator are up here and there, no albion are up yet. I`ll wait a while and then fill in the gladiator gaps with more seed. They aren`t good transplanted from a tray0 -
you can prechit parsnips to only transplant those that are viable. Takeaway tub, piece of kitchen roll and tuck it in. Wet it till damp, scatter parsnips and wait.
When they start showing a root, move them to the space you've got prepared or loo roll inners.0 -

Can you do this with carrot please? It would help me to distribute them evenly at their final place.0 -

Kittie - don't open up each one, that will spoil the whole meaning of mangetout. Just hold each one up to the light as you top and tail them, you can see any invaders through the light pods.0

Hello clever OS gardeners
I'm a total newbie at this growing food malarky - I have got a healthy crop of cress growing on kitchen roll:rotfl:
I also have planted lots of different seeds which are in my greenhouse now. I had a gardeners delight tomato set for xmas which was a small pot, seeds and compost. I followed the planting instructions and now have about 10 shoots growing in there, each about 2-3 inches long, with leaves on top. Do i now put canes in there to support the plants? I couldn't fit one per shoot I don't think. AM also worried about disrupting the roots wiith too many canes.
Sorry for totally newbie question, but there'll probably be more if my other seeds work!
Grateful for any help,

You need to pr-ick them out a s a p, and pot into 3.5inch pots. 2-3 inches sounds like they have gone leggy fighting for light amongst all 10 of them.
So repot deeply, up to the first seed leaves (ie the 2 rounded end leaves that were first to emerge).
Final pot size will need to be about 10 - 12 inches diameter, or use buckets. If you must use growbags, don't have them flat like a pillow, cut them in half and stand on end, much easier to support the tomatoes, or remove one if it gets diseased.0 -
Easy peasy way to pr-ick out is to remove the whole thing from the pot, and gradually tease apart - a plastic fork is ideal (the sort you get with takeaways/picnics etc).0
