Veg to plant in April and things to do.

How big is the pot? for 10 plants it would have to be huge! I think it was meant to be used only to start them growing, and then to plant them on in the bigger pots...Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

Hmm, they are both root vegetable so I cannot see it working differently. I try it and we'll see. I have plenty of seeds so can waste few if it doesn't work.
Tell me if it works.misskool - thanks for this, will give it a try.;)Done it for 2 years now, works a treat. Just need some tweezers to do the transplanting though, it's a bit fiddly...

Found an article about it on the net and they mention carrot there too. So it should!Done it for 2 years now, works a treat. Just need some tweezers to do the transplanting though, it's a bit fiddly...
OH asked my last night how am I planning to transplant them.. I said probably tweezers!!:D0 -
I have realised that the strawbs I planted in the shady bits in my garden will never fruit, so I have been moving them. I am amazed at the size of their crowns and the depth of the root system. I understand now why they say to pick away runners and fruits in year one to allow the plant to thrive.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

When is it best to move them - I have about 20 plants in a newly dug raised bed and have the plastic mats to put round to protect the anticipated fruit. But I was thinking of moving them into containers that would be along a fence so no danger of the fruit dragging on soil and creating space for other produce. Is it still ok to move them now as it looks like some are starting to flower?0 -
I have looked through my seeds last night, and I still need to sow carrots, hopefully by this weekend I will be able to sow some.
As for the rest, I have planned on growing some squash (butternut and Crown Prince) and pumpkin, some courgettes. I am still hopeful to have some artichokes to come up, if not - I will be buying the plants in the next month.
My cucumbers are just starting to show (only did 3 plants this year), and Romanesco has germinated already as well. I am still struggling with the peppers - not much success.
I have sown climbing courgette last Wednesday, hope it shows up soon!
There will be successive sowings of salads, radishes, spinach... And anything else I can think off!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

I have moved them all times of the year (including December) and never had any problems. I wouldnt do it if frost is threatened though.
If you think about it, the strawbs we buy mail order have been moved already ie from the ground to a parcel.
Strawbs are easy to grow in containers, as long as they are not allowed to dry out, or become waterlogged.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

Went outside for the first tidy up of the year last weekend to discover that my 4-tier plastic greenhouse needs a new cover as the pastic on the cover has rotted away in a lot of places
Looked on Ebay but for some reason I don't seem to have a standard or even extra wide sized one so none of the covers on there will fit.
I really wanted to get seeds planted this weekend, but won't have cover by then, unless I just buy a whole new frame (which I don't really want to). With all the little holes in the plastic cover, I don't think enough warmth will be trapped in there so do I need to wait? I can start a few things off on windowsils, but not everything.
Just when I was feeling motivated as well0 -
My peppers are pants this year, I can grow chillis no probs, but sweet peppers are my bete noire.
I've just emptied the rest of the packet (sow 2009 - should still be OK), and the 2 failed pots into a container, as a kind of Last Chance Pepper Saloon.
If they all decide to come up, there will be around 50; but I'm not counting on it.0
