Doodah see post number 414 or 420
Am quite tempted to get a friend to email them saying "i want to rent a dvd,but do not want to add 10 dvds to my list",just to see what they say!
  • I finally had a response from Lovefilm and this was it:

Thank you for your recent e-mail. We regret to inform that you are not eligible to avail this offer as you need to have an account active for 30 days after registration to claim the £15 voucher. We see that you have cancelled the account on 10/01/2007 within the 21 day free trial.

What do other suggest do I complain to lovefilm again or try Boots ?

    cheers Welshy x

Been away for a few days so haven't had time to catch up with postings here. Re Welshy's situation: Lovefiilm knows very well what the terms & conditions of the offer were, because Lovefilm wrote the terms & conditions.

The company is doing everything it can, in any way it can, to breach a contract it is presumably finding too expensive to fulfil -- after all, it has contracted with Boots to supply the vouchers, and is paying for 'em, much as Hoover had to bear the cost of its equally misjudged 'free US flights' promotion.

I have emailed Lovefilm about my own voucher. So far, no response, despite my screenshot showing Lovefilm's commitment to answer all emails "within 24 hours".

I will email again next week. If the outcome is not satisfactory, I have compiled information from this thread and others on the Internet and will pass that compilation to Trading Standards, coupled with any complaint I may have to make. I'm also looking at the OFT's role as the last time I dealt with their staff (on a quite different matter) they were exceptionally helpful and took action very quickly. Whether or not Lovefilm is a subject for OFT overview, I don't know. But I plan to find out.

I will also be asking Boots -- and not its customer service department, either -- what on earth it thought it was doing, associating its hugely valuable brand name with so self-evidently worthless a brand as that of Lovefilm International.

    * PS: it may be too late for many here, but could I recommend everyone, whether they're dealing with Lovefilm or anyone else when it comes to an online offer, to:
SAVE A SCREENSHOT OF YOUR REAL-TIME TRANSACTION

I use Screenhunter, it's free software and works fine for me -- much better than the standard 'print screen' key.

Lovefilm should serve as example enough -- what with its repeated 'excuse' (actually, there's another, less kind, and more accurate word than that) that customers breached their contract by not having 10 DVDs on their list -- for the importance of the screenshot to be apparent.

Otherwise, it's always going to be your word against theirs.

just received another reply, what are they on about?! what they have said is nothing to do with what i asked!

    Dear doodah,

Thank you for your recent email.

In response to your recent email we wish to confirm that your account is in cancelled status with effect from 2007-01-03 .

Further it seems that there have been problems selecting DVDs to send to you due to the length of your selection list. We do ask members to have at least 25-30 unique, available titles selected at all times to prevent delays. At the moment you only have 05 titles selected. However, to get the most from our service we request you to reactivate would advise that you maintain a list of over twenty titles, as this should prevent any extended delays.

Please bear in mind that titles that are not yet released do not count as one of your selections until they are available. Also, series discs that are requested to be sent in order will count as only one of your selections.

For more queries please do let us know.

    Kind regards,

    Susie
