Morning all.
Another AF day to report here 9 in total now, despite DH cracking open the wine and shouting loudly at the football match last night.
Rachel, I hope your Mum is comfortable . I too lost my father at a very young age and then my Mum when she was 64 so you have my deepest sympathy - it hits really hard when you no longer have any parents, even when your a grown up I think we still need our parents so much.
My only advice is to make the most of the time you have with her
Miss P. I understand that whole bing drinking thing, though I have no idea what the trigger is - maybe I just feel I have to run away for a little will into boozed up land.Trying to keep in budget.

Hi DM
Thanks for the tip. I'm rubbing Bonjela on my ulcers regularly, think salt water might make me sick!!! Well done with your decision not to drink when out with family. Heavy drinking is part of my family's culture and the option of not drinking when I became old enough wasn't given as an option - not sure that makes sense! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't poured down my neck and of course there was a choice but I didn't see it! It never crossed my mind!
Take care

Heavy drinking is part of my family's culture
Heavy drinking was part of my family culture until I was admitted to hospital as an emergency patient and given a 50% chance of survival.
The family are now "normal" drinkers.

Some methods A.A. members have used for not drinking.

Good afternoon everyone. 12 AFDs for me, not including today. Obviously I will be though. Can't even think about alcohol at the moment. I can't even stomach tea, just the thought of it makes me retch. And one day something looks yummy to me, the next disgusting. Heavy drinking is part of my family culture - it never even crossed my mind not to drink, it was almost expected. 3 of my partners have either been drinkers or from families of drinkers. Even as a relatively young age I was allowed a "taste" or a small glass of sherry at the dinner table. I can see this going on with my teenage son but have never felt comfortable saying no to senior members of my family, especially while I was still drinking.Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task

Just really struggled for the past hour
Between four and 6 really seems to be a hard time. Doesn't help that OH running late so dinners delayed waiting for him. Could really sit here with a nice cold glass of white wine right now.
Got through it so far though....drunk a gallon of pepsi max and eaten about 8 cream crackers!:eek:At this rate I'll be on Supersize Superskinny before you know it!:rotfl:

One of my family members just popped round to regale me with tales of saturday night birthday shenanigans - all day drinking fest, lots of money spent, dancing on the train etc etc. I wanted to suggest "change the record", but said that I was now alcohol free. strangeley enough this was met with a stunned silence.
oh well, I can only concentrate on my own recovery.
I havent craved a drink yet but do seem to always have a raging thirst. Plenty of water for me at the moment,Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task

Good news that you've not craved a drink yet. And well done for letting people know you're going alcohol free. :T**Keep Calm and Carry On!**0 -
