I'm an all or nothing type of drinker. I'm fine at the moment not having any, even though there's plenty of drink in the house. But if I do have a drink, I can't seem to just stop at one or two. I always end up going the whole hog, and get absolutely plastered.
This sounds so like me Rachelww. I couldn't just have one. I'd get half way down the glass and then top it up so it felt like I was still on my first glass! I don't have a stop button. I am constantly quoting Allen Carr to myself now. "you can't get drunk if you don't have the first drink"!

Morning everyone,
I know that I am a bit like this to, I have also failed the school week challenge, as went to visit someone yesterday and had 2 glasses of wine, and then when I got home I had a whiskey, why do we do it.
If I don't have any I seem to be fine but one never seems to be enough.

Hi 5 afd's for me please. Bit annoyed as I wasn't AF last night because I went round to see my best friend's new baby and had half a glass of champagne with them. Hoping to be AF tonight though as DH is going out so wont be tempted to share a bottle with him. Rachel-I'm so sorry about your mum but glad your mum is moving to a hospital nearer to you. Lots of really intesting posts on here at the moment. My drink that I binge on is wine as well-I tend to go mad on it at home-especially if we've got guests for dinner bizarrely and end up making a real idiot of myself in front of family members-if i was at someone elses house i wouldn't dream of pouring myself glass after glass but at home i have no monitor and it's almost I sabotage myself because not many of the women i know drink much so I make a show of myself glugging wine, slurring and generally being a real t**t! It is like it is like someone else said letting off a pressure valve because I run myself ragged all week, working, looking after my kids, cleaning the house, cooking etc and then at the weekend every so often bang! This thread is really helping me think about my behaviour.HSBC Visa-High interest-£2349.23 Nat West £2605.18

Thanks Bearacus! I am odd as I count a school night as a night before I have to get up to do school run/packed lunches/ uniforms.... Those manic couple of hours which is not nice to do when 'sluggish'. Friday night doesn't feel like a school night, more like the weekend.0 -
That's fantastic - well done , and now it's my turn to be jealous of the weight loss - three stones is amazing.
Now that you are over a year along the sober road, do you ever think about having a drink? I know that for over a year after stopping smoking I would get cravings but now it almost never happens. DO you get the same feeling?
I'm declaring tonight AF- I have a low calorie hot chocolate drink and am about to go to bed - I'm feeling very tired!
So that's one for the challenge Bearacus and another one for April please Shaggy.
Hi,
I get the odd thought, very odd now that ooh a drink would be nice but playing it forward I know its not a possibility for me anymore and I know that one drink would take me back to that dark dark place I was in. Today I have peace of mind and I want to keep that.
I tried everything to get sober, always thinking ill stop tomorrow and never actually doing anything, a drink was the easier answer

I think part of this is like trying to cut down smoking , the cutting down is as hard or harder than giving up completely and ends up being a bigger crutch. I'm reading Allen Carr stop smoking at the mo.
If I'm talking gibberish, excuse me. I'm aiming for Monday as my quit smoking day, the book is helping me to get to the right place in my head.0 -

Well done for trying to give up. I quit 5 months ago tomorrow using Champix, and can honestly say it wasn't as bad as I thought. Don't get me wrong, I had my moments where I could have killed for a fag, but mainly it has been ok. I joined an online support forum for people giving up (there is one on this site too), and still use it now. A piece of advice I found very helpful was to not try to give up too many things at once. I tackled the smoking first, then I put on weight. So now I am tackling the drinking and the weightloss together. As someone on there says 'fat I can fix, lung cancer I can't.' Read as much information as you can on what to expect. If your mind is in the right place, then you are more likely to succeed. xx
