    Hi All

I'm a cutter-downer too.....I was a very heavy drinker until I discovered this thread 5 months ago. I'd been drinking excessively for years and thought it was going to be a lot harder than it has been to cut down....my plan each week is to try to abstain on work nights with no set rules for the weekend. What I'm finding is that when I do have a drink it takes far less to get me tipsy and that the hangovers seem to be a million times worse. I think I must have lived with a permanent hangover in the past and just accepted that dreadful feeling as the norm.

The one thing that worries me slightly is that I'm still a routine drinker....the thought of not having my 'fix' on a Friday and Saturday just doesn't compute with me....which suggests that my relationship with alcohol is not quite as healthy as it should be.....I think I definitely have to class myself as a 'work in progress' and as they say.....continue to take it one day at a time.

Anyway enough of my waffle, AF tonight so I'm on 11 AFD's please shaggy. Can I pledge just 3 for the SNC this week please bearacus with the first one under my belt this evening...I've got an industry event/dinner this week and will need a glass of wine to get me through the speeches :o

Rachel - well done on your AF Sunday, glad to hear that your Mum's feeling a little better at the moment

    Mrs R - don't be a stranger...we're all here to support you

Good luck everyone for a successful week

  • 9 afds for me please Shaggy and could i have 3 for the snc challange please bearacus with one under my belt already. I'm a cutter downer and I seem to have gone off the rails for a bit-I've not been that strict and had been allowing myself glasses of wine during the week which i had stopped-eg Wednesday I had the day off so had a glass of wine when i had lunch out, half a glass of wine that evening when i attended a meeting and then half a bottle when i got in-:(-that's a bottle over a day and my weight has crept up too and I feel really bloated and just generally blah. I'm going to turn it around this week and get back on the straight and narrow and get my weight under control too because that is getting me down. Well done mackaroo on your weight loss-was that with SW? Nice to hear from mrs r-it's great to hear from you and to hear that Baby R is doing so well-my two loved the bumbos!

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I know some people who have managed to moderate by delaying having a drink until later in the evening using these sorts of distractions.

This is what I try to do :). If I start drinking too early it becomes hard to pace myself, so the later I have the first drink the better.

  • Thanks Bearacus and May xx

AF again last night. Maybe it's because I don't want want happened to my friend on Sat night to ever happen to me. She got so wasted that she had to be pushed home in a wheelbarrow from the pub :(. I haven't had a drink since then. Mind you, it was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time :o. My danger zone is tonight, because I am going out. The plan at the moment is just to stick to diet sprite, but I'll see how I feel when I get there.

Nice to see you back Mrs R x

:eek::eek: I've heard of distraction techniques but there is a limit!!!

Calling in late for me, but I'm trying to avoid late night posting as I'm a bit short of sleep.

7AF for October please Shaggy and 1 for the SNC thanks Bearacus.

I can totally empathise with effects of drinking intensifying after AFness. I can't believe how I managed to get up for work and appear presentable and compus mentis (at least I think I did) on a bottle + a night, every night.

  • Hello, I'm new.
I drink far too much and I want to cut down. I have been a 'lurker' on this thread for some time but have decided that I really should be part of it.
It used to be (years ago) that I could have a couple of glasses of wine occasionally (or more than a couple on special occasions) and I never ever drank by myself; drinking was very much a social activity. Now I sit every evening on my own and polish off at least a bottle of wine; my partner does exactly the same in another room (he smokes, I no longer do and I find it revolting). It is a situation that can't go on; I can't do anything about his drink problem but I can try to do something about my own.
So.. I would like to be part of the SNC please, 3 days; I will not drink today, Wednesday or Thursday.
