11 please, Shaggy, thanks
But I've been over-indulging on my wine-allowed nights this month.
Well done to all those who are abstaining - I see these inspiring AF totals, and I really want to try to be like you. :TI've been cutting down using this thread for about 2.5 years now, and I've done well - if only I could go that one last step and cut it out completely apart from on special occasions.
All advice welcome
What are the triggers that lead to you drinking when you would rather not do?0 -
Nice one.
As I said (and bearacus did as well I think) it's probably different for everyone, but the one thing I have to avoid is thinking too far into the future. I just think about today for as long as it's possible I will have a drink. If I'm home and haven't opened a bottle at about 9pm, I know I'll be ok and I can think about tomorrow.
This also works for me. If I can go to bed tonight knowing I haven't harmed anyone through my drinking that qualifies as a successful day for me and I can sleep well. I don't know what will happen tomorrow, but today I won't drink and I'm comfortable with that.0 -
:wave:bretts, you've been given good advice about avoiding alcohol and it is true that it get's easier over time. I'm a bit of a lightweight, motivated most by lack of calories first, money a good bonus and (if I'm being honest) health issues last. I find posting here helps. This thread attracts a lovely bunch of people and I feel really bad if I've made a commitment and don't stick to it. I'm like that in RL so do my very best to be the same with my virtual friends.
I would like to say a big:T to everyone who's clocking up superb AF totals. I admire you hugely but I've always been adamant that my goal was to be a sensible social drinker. There was a time when I got really fed up as (maybe perceived by me) there was a tone to the thread (years ago) that if you didn't give up completely you didn't belong. With strategic use of the ignore button I got through that and the thread is now far more what it says on the tin!!!
Good to hear from you MrsR and I'm glad to hear that you and baby (if not MrR:() are doing well. Do keep posting. we're good listeners.
I've had a busy weekend with meals out, wedding etc. Although I've not been AF I am so delighted I've become a sensible social drinker. Time was (2.5yrs ago pricey;)) when I probably would have had far too much at a wedding, been loud & embarassing, fallen asleep in someone's bathroom and had a massive hangover today. Instead, I enjoyed what I had but didn't overdo it and I'm fine.:D
It'll be good to get back on the wagon tomorrow. Would you put me down for 3 for the SNC please Bearacus?0 -
Evening everyone
Not been around lately but have managed 14 AFDs so far this month.0 -
Mrs R, I second what Maman says - please do keep posting here - you won't be bringing anyone down, we're good listeners and our positive vibe may bring you up a bit! And your view from outside the 'alcohol bubble' also serves as a good reminder to all of us who worry about how our drinking behaviour may be affecting our families and friends.
Maman, I think of you as a shining example of how we can change our behaviour to cut back, self monitor and drink, as you say, sensibly and socially. There are those who find this too difficult and they may feel happier to stop completely but I think this thread is broad enough for everyone to feel at home.
I find the idea of AF days very useful as it just helps me to monitor how much I'm drinking, something that tends to slowly creep up as I fall into the habit of having a tipple every night. I don't think I want to be tee total, but am curious to see whether I would feel loads better if I didn't drink at all for a prolonged period of time (wishful thinking perhaps, I want the energy of my youth back!)Trying to keep in budget.

God, I hope people don't feel put off by my going on about being AF for a while. It just works for me at the moment. I am not intending to never drink again - it's just that this is my longest dry spell ever and losing the weight is really helping! Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?0 -
Thanks everyone for the good wishes i really do appreciate them.
Well done Shaggy on your achievements on the scales and in the purse! 11 AF please Shaggy
Bearacus can you put me down for the full monty this week please and a huge :T:T:T:T to you and Shaggy for continuing to keep the scores
Nice to hear from you again MrsR and that baby R is doing so well, as others have said, we are good listeners here
Maman i really liked and related to your post this eve, and im glad i only found this thread this year as i dont think i would have stuck around if it was like how you described it to be years ago. I too am working on 'drinking in moderation'. Im a cutter downer and my main focus at the mo is to try and stop the drinking on a school nite.
Once i feel more in control of that aspect of my drinking i will then focus on my next challenge which will be to drink more moderately when im out. When ive got a social event lined up, which at the mo, is most weekends, its like a race to see when i can have my first drink as i think to myself 'ooh ive been good all week' . But 1 thing/day at a time and all that!
Good luck everyone for this week hope its a good oneIt’s not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts0 -
Morning :hello:
1 more AFD for me. Bearacus put me down for the Full Monty
