What do other parents do to help themselves avoid temptation / boredom (basically the same thing for me, at least), when they are stuck in the house all night, every night?

    Welcome aboard linsayg!

I am not a single mother but I have 3 young children. I think its good to get into a routine which doesn't include drink. So for example tonight I will put the children to bed then do an exercise dvd. It is not as much fun as a class but hey its cheaper. Then shower, read, bed. Easy, at least now! There is always ironing night . Its productive and job done. Do you have any hobbies you have neglected? Some of us knit which keeps us occupied. Even just a relaxing bath and a bit of pampering. There is a thread somewhere on here which has fridge/larder recipes for face scrubs/masks etc. If you could get someone to mind the children for 2 hours for a run or class once a week that might help inspire you for the rest of the week. I am sure the others have some great ideas. HTH

Thank you to everyone for my birthday wishes and congratulations. Karate is not something I could have done before I had self-discipline with my AFD's. So thank you to this thread :T.
  • Evening all, it's very quiet tonight.

Day 4 AF and 3 for SNC please. :)

Has anyone experience getting very bad skin when they have a few AF days in a row after drinking nearly every day for a while? My face has exploded :(

3AFDs please Shaggy. Just taken my nytol, so hoping for a good nights sleep tonight. Going camping at the weekend so probably won't get much sleep then. Nor will I be AF, as going away with friends who like to drink alot.

Hello all, Hope everyone's had a good day!

Welcome and hugs to you Lindsayg :).

Have had BAAAAAD day and not a jolly Doc's appointment. He was running @ 40 mins late and I burst into tears as soon as I sat down... not a great deal he can do. Gave me a prescription for some sleeping pills - which I can't afford and don't want anyway. Also offered to refer me for counselling for my particular "issue" - but have had two courses of that and although they were good in some respects, they didn't help at all with the main problem, so I said no, thank you (would rather others had a first opportunity than that I had a third one).... And d'you know the REAL irony...?

He wasn't in the least bit concerned about the vodka. "It's good to have a treat at the end of the day." he said (and, yes, I was honest with him).smiley-angry019.gif

Nice little evening stroll with Jazz-dog, though. :)

Is anyone else dying to know how Miss P's car got on, or is it just me?!

    Keep smiling... x
  • Hey Ruth, I would maybe ask to see a different doctor. His advice doesn't seem right to me... maybe he was in a bit of a rush?

Sorry for the long ramble below!
I had a very restful sleep last night, didn't wake up once! Was strange not pouring myself a glass of wine when I got in late from work last night but after about an hour I felt tired anyway, so I guess it's just a case of waiting a bit to feel like I've wound down rather than needing alcohol to do it.

That is so true, and I wonder if I'm missing the sugar rush from my usual wine intake too. I hope your Mum's cat gets well soon, fingers crossed

Chloris, very belated happy birthday wishes from me too. And thanks for telling us about Karate and the help being AF has been in doing that, really good to hear - thanks!

FPT I've noticed that my complexion looks worse but in the past have found some decent sleep and lack of booze means it looks better pretty quick so hopefully that will be the same for you. For me it's usually noticeable if I can go a week without heavy boozing

Rachel, I'm camping too and won't be af either, hope the weather is kind to you wherever you are!

RNJ, Hugs and sooo sorrry to hear the doc didn't go well for you today. I agree with FPT - go back and see a different doctor. I'd be horrified if a doctor told me my drinking was ok if I'd actually ever been honest with them:D I hadn't picked up on the AD thing until Maman's post today sorry if I sounded a bit casual with my good wishes this morning, hadn't realised (plus was half asleep to be honest) And I am wondering about the Miss-Piggy-mobile too!

Welcome aboard LindsayG and good luck on saving money by cutting down booze. I can't help on the single parent thing but agreed with Chloris that keeping occupied with something like a hobby is good.

Lost half a pound at fat club, went for a jog and then ate dinner. Just finished packing and haven't had time to think about wine except on the short journey between WW and before jogging so the plan worked! That's 3 for the SNC Bearacus and 3 AFDs for me please Shaggy

Yes, maybe. Or maybe he thought that the drink was the least of my worries at the moment. I don't know.... :(

Hello WBF - Thank you for your sweet message of support (and to MAMAN too!); please don't worry about AD thing at all - it honestly never occurred to me. I am feeling a bit better now than I was. Had a good walk with Jazz and been chatting with an old friend I haven't seen in years on FaceCloth and that was really nice. It's just a build-up of frustration about the present financial issues, I think. It'll be OK.

Anyhoo - MANY congratulations on the weight-loss! That's fab! :T

I used to go to a Tubb-Club but stopped as I couldn't really afford it - hehe, I was losing more £s than lbs! :D When things are straighter money-wise (hopefully in the next month or two), I'm going to join one of those Zumba class things - might be a laugh, and I can't possibly look more of a daft t!t than I do normally! smiley-ashamed005.gif

Hi All...just popping in quickly tonight. 8 AFD's please shaggy and 3 for the SNC please bearacus

FPT - my skin was dreadful at the beginning too (I think it was my body detoxing). Now after 4 months of cutting my drinking down drastically it has never looked better...the blotchy, bloated , baggy eyed face as been replaced with a clear complexion, even colouring and clear eyes - stick with it, in just a few days your skin will start to settle down and you'll feel a million dollars :)

Welcome linsayg :hello: - good luck on your AF journey x
