Miss P - hope its good news about the car.
Bearacus - hope your mum responds well to the treatment.
    May - Thank you.
WBF - Hope you have a dry camping trip.

1 for the SNC and 5 in August. I managed to be AF yesterday which is the first time I have been AF on my birthday since I was 18. And I passed my karate grading too, so I am very pleased.

Me too Chloris, how did I miss all that? You're obviously on a mission to get yourself sorted and doing fabulously well:T

So glad you made a GP appointment Ruth, although proud of you for the 4 days so far. You need to know whether going cold turkey is harmful in any way, how it affects the ADs and what help they can give you to stay AF. I know I'm bossy but that's my job:o

Fingers crossed for your car MissP:)

    Have a good day all.
  • Morning everyone :hello:

Hi jo, I remember you from the first time I was around here before I disappeared :)

RnJ I hope the docs goes well tonight.

Congrats on your karate grading chloris and a belated happy birthday :j
Mackeroo I hope the doc can sort your cold out, 7 weeks a way too long!

Miss P, glad you've found a way to sort the car :)

I had a very restful sleep last night, didn't wake up once! Was strange not pouring myself a glass of wine when I got in late from work last night but after about an hour I felt tired anyway, so I guess it's just a case of waiting a bit to feel like I've wound down rather than needing alcohol to do it.

Not at work again til 5pm tonight so not sure what I'm going to do all day today. I need to find a way to make some extra money as there's no overtime at work, and I really need to get out of my overdraft before I go back to college in September.

Mum's cat has gone back to the vet this morning, he's being sedated for an x-ray, which carries a risk if there's still any water on his lungs. :( I hope the little dude will be ok.

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Okay, here goes. I'm broke, got debts, and I'm hiding from it by sitting in the garden every night smoking and drinking. Which I calculated yesterday is costing me over a grand a year!

I thought I'd try the 'don't spend anything for a month' challenge. Which - apart from the booze and fags (ahem) - I'm finding quite easy. Sigh.

So I'd like to join you all in the AF thread, please. :A

Can I ask - what is the School Night Challenge?

    Welcome aboard!

You'll find lots of support here whether you're giving up or just cutting down. :) The school night challenge is not drinking on a 'school night', or Monday - Thursday evenings. You can also set yourself a target for the month for a number of days you don't want to drink, or you can be TF (target free) and just see how you go. :)
  • Ah, thank you :) If I could even just do the school nights it would be a massive improvement!

My main problem is I'm a single parent, so I can't leave the house in the evening. In the old days if I wanted to stop smoking or drinking I'd go for a run, eat a healthy dinner then have a shower. After all that I was really motivated not to spoil it with drinking or smoking.

What do other parents do to help themselves avoid temptation / boredom (basically the same thing for me, at least), when they are stuck in the house all night, every night?

BTW, I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm getting hammered every night in charge of a child - it's not the volume per night that worries me, it's the almost-every-nightness that's an issue.
