Ruth, I'm amazed that your GP thought that a half litre of vodka was OK!!! I suppose you self-medicating saves him the bother:mad: My concern about the ADs was that someone said they wouldn't be effective (sort of chemically?) if you were drinking with them. It seems your best bet is will power, developing good habits and stick with the thread!! You've done so well, so far:T.

:wave:Lindsay, you've had some good ideas for distraction techniques. I'd say the best advice for cutting down the drinking would be to not buy any as you won't be able to change your mind once the children are in bed. I'd decide on an amount you think is OK for the week (financially and healthwise) and then just treat yourself to that on the day. Personally I prefer to choose my drinking days and go AF on others rather than just a glass every day. Quantity may be the same but it suits me better. Longer term, you'll find you drink less on drinking days too as tolerance drops. Good Luck.

I was out to lunch today. Really lovely and we had some wine and champagne. BUT I didn't carry on when I got home, soooo diferent from my old 'Mastermind' habits.

    :T to everyone who's been AF:A

    Good morning all!

Miss Piggy is mobile again!!:T Unfortunately....it seems though that the problem was my fault in the first place. I put water in it while it was still very hot the other day and it caused an air bubble blockage :o:o:o Very, very embarrassed but very grateful it wasn't anything more serious. Thank-you all for wondering how everything was :T (still chickling at the idea of my car being a Piggymobile!!:rotfl:)

Lots to say this morning but have to be quick as I should really be in the shower by now.

RuthnJ - sorry but I think your doctor needs a kick up the jacksie! Alcohol is an anti-depressant so will fight against any good effects your anti-depressants are having. And if he knows you are drinking large amounts I also think its very irresponsible of him to prescribe sleeping pills! Obviously I'm not a doctor, so this is just my opinion, but I would go and see a different doctor. He doesn't seem to be helping you in any way at all.

FPT - yes, I have always experienced flare ups in my skin after a few days AF. Drink loads of water and it'll soon star to improve.

Maman - ooh get you with your champagne!!:rotfl::D Sounds like you had a lovely time though.....and well done on not "starting and finishing!" :rotfl:

Away to throw myself in the shower!!!

    Miss P
    xx

Sorry Ruth that your doctor was so unwilling to help. However do not let one GP s opinion stop you from getting help, go back and see a different doctor and carry on trying to cut down yourself xx ((hugs to you)) xx

    Morning all

Have to catch up with posts later, no time now.

I will be 6 days alcohol free if i can stay dry today.

Re targets, can i set a total of 28 AFDs that will be for the whole of August?

Is that ok, even though i didn't join at the start of the month?

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Guess it's time I need to clamber back on board, bit scary after all this time being AWOL.

Hi to those of old and those that have joined since I fell off the thread :D

Been drinking every night, although my situation has changed hugely as I was a secret drinker, alone in the kitchen every night.

Since I last posted on here, I have left my husband and now living with a new partner, just got a new job which I start on Monday  and really need to get a grip on life as I have never had it so good, its a huge leap from the sometimes suicidal bleeting posts I used to post up on here. Although I am still drinking, I do not hide it, I also now never drink to black out or get drunk and no longer have hangovers, although I am aware that if I didn't drink at all my mind would be clearer, I would have more energy and my general health would improve.

I am going to think about not drinking Sun to Thurs and see how I get on.

    Dammit, today's Thursday

Well least it'll give you time to think about it. :D

I often find that once I've had these inspirational and motivated thoughts, any drinking I do afterwards I don't particularly enjoy anyway. Maybe it'll help you make your mind up? Glad to hear other things are better for you though :)
  • Thanks everyone for the advice regarding skin. I've never had particularly good skin (except for when I was a teenager - weird!) but I'm on a particular contraceptive pill to help control it as apparently it's hormonal. So I'm finding it a bit strange that it's flared up all of a sudden. Will continue with the cutting down and see how it goes though. I'm meant to be at a BBQ on saturday and a friends birthday next week, I almost don't want to go now as I know I'll end up drinking!

Not drinking is also really helping me money wise as I've realised all my (small) disposable income pretty much goes on alcohol and food - giving it straight back to Mr. S after I've been paid!

    6 AF for me please.

Really shocked at the docs reaction RnJ - sounds like he has a problem of his own to me

Glad the Piggymobile will be fit for the holiday Miss P :D My little goddaughter has a Peppa Pig toy car and I now have this as a vision for your transport :rotfl:

 to Lindsay G Welcome to the sparkly skin brigade

Going for another AF day today its so nice waking up with energy and some get up and go. Its getting easier I can tell that yesterday I hardly thought about having a drink at all. Had to tell a white lie to my good friend though who just text to invite me to a boozy late lunch. Hate doing that but its too easy to give in at this point for me and I want to save some drinking days for the weekend. Will at least get some work done now and maybe a bit of ironing......oh joy :D:D

Have a great day all and good luck to anyone struggling.

ETA - Welcome back Jo sounds like your life is on a much better footing now good for you :) Why not just take one day at a time rather than saying Sun-Thurs? Seems to work for me as you know you can drink if you want to but maybe you wont want to x
