Sorry for the ramble, it's nice to be able to think it through 'out loud' IYKWIM.
No need to apologise Annie, we understand because we've all been there. I often have to literally 'tell' myself I'm NOT having a drink tonight. Wandering down the wine aisles in the supermarket is one place I still try to avoid on AF days. Well done for resisting. The last time I was on this thread I found that if I could get through dinner without a drink then I just didnt fancy one after that so its something I will need to try and remember and if I'm really struggling I will tell myself I can have one after dinner if I still want it - I bet most times I wont
And well done to you too debs. I find I miss wine more when I'm preparing dinner than actually eating it. Afterwards, I find making a cup of tea helps. A hot drink is best for me because it takes time to drink. Cold drinks I just pour down my neck!
2AF for August please Shaggy and 2 for the SNC thanks Bearacus.0 -
Hi All
Just got in after a long boozy night out with colleagues and clients and I'm really glad to report that I was AF!!! so that's 2 AFD's please shaggy and 2 for the SNC please bearacus.
If I'm honest I'm really shocked at how hard it is for others to accept that I don't want a drink...at the beginning of the evening I was bought a drink despite saying that I didn't want one and then had a glass of wine poured for me at dinner (again after I'd said that I wasn't drinking). I left both drinks untouched much to the disapproval of several of the group....unfortunately it drew rather too much attention to the fact that I am abstaining but at least they'll take no for an answer next time. The whole evening was really hard work as I felt that I had to be overly 'entertaining' to prove that I could still be the 'life and soul' without a glass in my hand
...bah!
Well done to NTC and Scotsdeb for getting your first AFD under your belt :T.
AnnieG - breaking the habit at the beginning of the journey was the hardest part for me, you're doing really well so far!!

Well done May13 that's real willpower. Yoemma-I can really recommend Zumba-I went last night and I enjoy it so much that the time flies by. It was so hot last night though that I was flinging sweat around off my hair-very attractive and enjoyable for the ladies next to me! 2 afds for me and 2 for the snc. dh was having a can of beer and I was really tempted to have a glass of lager as it was hot but i thought of my liver after watching panorama, my alcohol free days and my waistline so had some diet coke instead.HSBC Visa-High interest-£2349.23 Nat West £2605.18

Thanks for your support everyone, it's so helpful. The first thing I thought when I woke up this morning was 'i'm so glad I didn't drink last night'. My head is clear and I can get on and get things done rather than lolling around feeling rubbish, so I'm going out for a walk in the sunshine and then get the grass cut. I feel happy today.Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0

I work on 25.5 for a bottle of dry red/white, although I know that champers is more syns:D I suppose it depends on what you consider a treat. I know I'd prefer a few bottles a week (or G&T at 4 with slimline tonic) and a bit left over for gravy etc than eating cakes or chocolate bars or other things some SW members crave.
I saw a bit of that programme last night and it is a salutory lesson. That Liverpudlian girl with the jaundice was difficult to get out of my mind. Fortunately I've never drunk so much to be in that state but I am glad I stopped myself from going down the wrong road. It could so easily happen I suppose.
That being said, I am ashamed to say that calories and money are better motivators for me. I think it's because I was only slowly causing health issues but the cash and weightloss are more instant results.
Whats syns?
Anyway, I didn't drink for the 6th day in a row, so that's 2 for August, but really, I'm keeping count of how many "in a row" I can get up to. It's a friend's birthday tonight - we're going for Eritrean food. I am going to drive.
I've just dropped mini-flimsier at the childminders and have a great deal of school-holiday work to be getting on with, but I quite fancy a nap first! Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?0 -
Hi :hello:
No AFDs to report but haven't been too bad. I Had a lovely sunny break....
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

 Morning All
Wow!!!! So much has been going on!! And everyone has been doing so well. Good to see some fab AF totals for July. A particular shout out to May2013, well done for leaving the 2 drinks that were given to you. That is willpower!!
Welcome to all the newbies, and welcome back to returning posters
Well despite everything that was said there has still been alcohol in the house this week. Not as much as before but more than i'd like. Not helped by my dad buying MrR 24 bottles of Bud as a present for the new Daddy. I cracked last nite, was crying and just saying "you promised, you promised". He was giving her a feed and just kept faffing around rather than just getting it down her. I just wanted her to have enough so I could get more than 2 hours sleep! He's back to work today so hopefully that should improve things. I just don't understand why he would want his memories of the first few days blurred by drinking a bottle of wine.
Really wish I'd seen Panaroma.
Right, I suppose I should do something while she is sleeping........
