Hello Everyone :hello: I havent done this challenge since about March this year and let me tell you it shows...on my weight, on my pocket and my general attitude to everything. I very rarely get drunk but a glass (or 3 or 4....) of wine every evening is a habit that needs to stop. I'm not even enjoying it that much its just become part of my evening routine. DH never drinks through the week and as a result really enjoys his first beer of a friday evening after a week at work & thats a place I want to get back to again...

So am setting myself a target of 12 AF for AUGUST which still leaves rooom for improvement but its not so scarey a number that I just dont even give it a try...........here goes

hello all. so that's 1 AFD and 1 day for SNC under my belt - i find it fairly easy staying AF during the week as the weekends always seem to be a stumbling block, unless i've had a horrendous day at work!

so yesterday saw another start at Slimming World, I've been maintaining since the start of the year but really need to try and shift this last stubborn stone. hopefully by cutting out alcohol (and in turn, the munchies that come with the glasses of wine!) it'll help a little! has anyone tried Zumba before? i normally do body pump/combat but thought this would be something lighthearted and FUN to get my booty moving!

I watched that Panorama programme last night also. very scary. hopefully will try to keep the poor girls imagine in my head if i find myself reaching for a drink. i know these are to the extreme but they probably never thought they would end up that way! x

    Good afternoon all!

NTC - yes, I saw the panorama programme. Although it didn't say anything I didn't already expect (my own brother was diagnosed with hepatitis etc through drinking at about age 36), what did shock me was the AMOUNTS some young people could get through! A whole bottle of vodka and I'd be in a coma...but it seems the norm for young people now!:( It also concerned me greatly that, for all they say they want to tackle binge drinking, the government seem to be shying away from the proven ways of cutting alcohol consumption :(.

Scotdebs - good luck. I know the feeling of one glass leading to 2 or 3!

Yoemma - zumba is on my list of things to try!!:D Tried spinning last week.....my god I thought I was dying!(can see why they call it the calorie killer!!!!):rotfl:Zumba is meant to be good fun though - and a good calorie burner!

Anyhoo....not a bad day today. Work very quiet so spent most of time mooching through forums etc gathering up SW info. Was going to re-join my local group but will do that after holiday (if I'm not completely brassic by then!!) Maman....is it seriously 30 syns in a bottle of wine!?! No wonder I'm bloody fat!:rotfl:

Took Piglet shopping when I picked him up from work.....stocked up on paper, pens, stickers etc so he's been having a great time drawing pictures and has done a letter to post to his little school friend :)

I work on 25.5 for a bottle of dry red/white, although I know that champers is more syns:D I suppose it depends on what you consider a treat. I know I'd prefer a few bottles a week (or G&T at 4 with slimline tonic) and a bit left over for gravy etc than eating cakes or chocolate bars or other things some SW members crave.

I saw a bit of that programme last night and it is a salutory lesson. That Liverpudlian girl with the jaundice was difficult to get out of my mind. Fortunately I've never drunk so much to be in that state but I am glad I stopped myself from going down the wrong road. It could so easily happen I suppose.

That being said, I am ashamed to say that calories and money are better motivators for me. I think it's because I was only slowly causing health issues but the cash and weightloss are more instant results.

I'm the same, to be honest. As long as I can have gravy then I can forego cakes and sweets etc. I'm a savoury person at heart so meals always "do" it for me. Oh..and of course, the wine....:o

I went to my first spin class today too, and also thought I was about to die! I haven't ruled out going again though.

I'm dying to open the bottle of pinot grigio in the fridge, but am currently resisting. As I'm on leave from work I feel entitled to it, almost as though I SHOULD drink it cos I can't usually during the week.
But I'm doing my best not to open it. I'll justwatch Eastenders then go out for a walk and then it'll be just about bedtime, I'm tired tonight so looking forward to my sleep tonight, which will be much more restful if I don't drink.

Sorry for the ramble, it's nice to be able to think it through 'out loud' IYKWIM.

  • Hi - declaring 12 days for July and new target for AUGUST - 14 DAYS PLEASE!!
I am determined to do it this month - not much money left so that helps. I suppose at least I have not been properly drunk for a long time now, even if I did have a drink most days last month. Onwards and upwards! Welcome to the new people, this is a great thread and I'm off to catch up now...

Well I did it .......AF day in a good while - had a bit of a battle with myself around the usual tricky time of getting boys off to bed and making dinner but managed to show some self control.......for once:o.
The last time I was on this thread I found that if I could get through dinner without a drink then I just didnt fancy one after that so its something I will need to try and remember and if I'm really struggling I will tell myself I can have one after dinner if I still want it - I bet most times I wont

AnnieG good luck holidays are always a real temptation for me too

    AF for me tonight
