  • MrR did tell his family yesterday that he was no longer drinking in the week, and when he does have something it will just be a couple of bottles of Bud, and not the wine. So I guess that's progress.
As for when Little Bean arrives, I have made it very, very clear. No alcohol in the house. And if he chooses to have a drink, even 1, I will be keeping him away from baby until it's out of his system.

Sadly experience tells me that this is not going to happen until he gets treatment for his alcoholism.

    Take care.

Hello everyone, welcome to Yoemma and Candygirl - I came back after a long break just last week.

It was my best friend's birthday yesterday so I went for a drink after work - three sparkling waters and 2 proseccos and home by 9pm - not AF but proud of myself. I am AF today so that's two days AF for me now Shaggy :A

Someone mentioned Daniel Radcliffe yesterday and I had read about his decision to go AF and thought what a sensible and mature thing it was to do, and good to admit as so many young people just think it's cool to be trashed as much as possible. He struck a chord with me when he said how much his drinking had affected his relationship. Unfortunately I don't care too much about me but it's the hideous guilt after I have been irresponsible with my safety, rowed with my boyfriend/brother/friends etc that really gets to me and makes me realise I have a problem. Some people had commented on the story to the effect that "he's hardly George Best" and "he's too young to think he has a problem" - really got my back up as that's what I have to put up with. Surely it is better to stop yourself before you are on the downward spiral? It is so easy to reach that point. I envy people who have a genuine "take it or leave it" attitude - unfortunately I haven't!

Anyway enough navel-gazing from me - off to make dinner and then an early night with a herbal tea to help me sleep.

Hope you all have a lovely evening and wake up refreshed tomorrow!!

    PK x

Prettykitty - couldn't agree more. You wouldn't happen to have a link to the article. Think it would be quite good reading. I'm only a year or two older than he is and when I'm telling people, I'm getting looked at like I have two heads. Can't help thinking if it were any other drug, I'd get a lot more support x well done on the birthday party also :-) x

I'm calling in early for tonight. I know I won't drink now, not even heard a single tinkle of wine bells.

MrsR, I'm sure you understand where RA is coming from. However, MrR won't seek any he until he decides. It sounds like he knows what he should do but can't quite take the steps. Telling his family but then immediately using the Bud as a get out clause seems to prove this. I admire you hugely for coping. Take care.

I think you did really well at the birthday drinks prettykitty. That sort of drinking is perfectly sensible and means you are in control with no unpleasant side effects.

oops! no idea where all that sermonising came from:o

2AF for July Shaggy and 2 for the SNC, please Bearacus.

I did 18 days in June. I think I've done two in July; but I haven't really made an effort. Definitely did last night, and I think I did the 1st.
Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
