So as predicted I managed to make it 5/8. I think I'll try to make it a round 2/3rds today.

Oh well. It's 5/10. However, I'm going to go for 6 on day 11.
Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?

Hello there!:) I am interested in joining you all if you don't mind?
I'm 24 and my boyfriend and I drink rather a lot and have decided we want to live healthy lives and we MUST cut down. We are best mates as well as bf and gf and we have all the same friends that we hang out with. The trouble is ALL of our friends drink heavily too and whenever we socialise it always ends up being a heavy night. We both work irregular hours and drink a few times a week, but like I said it is always heavy binge drinking. We've tried suggesting going bowling or to the cinema but most of our friends don't have jobs and can't afford to do these things (although they'll always find enough money for boozing!)
The sad thing is that I'm quite a shy, nervous person and I only ever feel totally comfortable around people when I'm drinking (except for my boyfriend). I always get my words muddled up and worry about things too much when I'm not drinking so the thought of socialising without booze scares me, especially as everyone else will probably be drinking. Also we both still live at home with our parents so we don't have a house to do things like dinner parties etc.
    Anyone in a similar position???

Welcome Krackingtoast:) I'm not in your position as far as home etc concerned but I think many/most of us on here can empathise with having a crowd of mates who are all big drinkers. Plus the bit about confidence and worrying about socialising without it. As you want to cut down rather than give up, then you need to find ways of drinking less on the nights you choose to drink or having fewer drinking nights. We've often discussed 'excuses' to use on here, everything from money to driving to antibiotics to pregnancy!! Your other option is to just tell your mates you're cutting down as you're worried about your health. You might lose a few but its more likely to be forgotten soon enough. Do you get into rounds? You definitely need to sort that out if you're having a soft drink or water in between. It's great that you and bf are doing this together.

Others will be along with more ideas and ways of joining in our AF target setting if you're (both?) interested.

    Good Luck.

Good morning all, welcome aboard Krackingtoast.
Welcome to the "new" Lost Soul 78, when I first introduced the concept of af days, on the days that I did drink, I practically drank double my normal amount, as though I was trying to make up for my lost days. I then realised there was a problem, and had to cut it out of my life full stop. Ok, you drank on a day that you had designated af and feel a bit of a failure. Pledge not to be hard on yourself, set a new day to be af and have another go. There is plenty of support on this board to help you achieve any target you set.

Shaggy, 11 afd please. I am still a bit tired and frazzled and have been for a few days, lots of plans are coming to fruition which is nice, but a bit like spinning plates - it takes a lot of energy to keep them all up.
I am taking my aunt to watch DS2 play at a church fete today after hitting the charity shops in an affluent part of town. Am going to look for a frock for my grandma's birthday.
enjoy the sunshine and best of luck with your challenges.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

    Hi Lost Soul,

I keep an alcohol diary where I record my units. I try to keep my units below the governments recommended limits each week.

I find this really helps me as it's all there in black and white and I know that if I exceed the government's limits I am inviting health problems on myself!
