    if you can work it into your cal allowance then its not a problem, sat fats are good for you so there not an issue

    That method is pretty OTT Eric, lol! Although I guess it is worth it if it is a food that you eat often. I've probably done my blood sugars 30 times in the last 18 months or so, and no matter when I do it (before or after food) they have always been between 5.1 and 5.9 - apart from xmas day when it reached 6.5 after a huge meal. That really suprises me (knowing how much DS's readings vary), do you think that such a small variation means that I'd struggle to measure the effects of foods? As it would be quite interesting to test out a few foods that I eat (or would eat) quite often.

    those are normal to low BS readings which is excellent which should mean you have good insulin control, however its not possible to tell how much insulin the body is using to keep the readings like that, all i can surmise is that if the figures get high then your going to be making a lot more insulin, however in reality its far more complicated than this but since its the only method we can use to check blood sugars its probably a reasonable rule of thumb.

    Vixarooni, you're right, we knew little about food 60 years ago and, for most people, it was a question of getting enough food rather than too much/wrong kinds. The big difference was activity. People walked or cycled. Few people had cars. Normal life had enough activity built into it. If you think of the 'paleo' diet, people way way back, our remote ancestors in fact, would have used up as much energy searching for food and preparing it as they gained in energy when they'd eaten it.

    well my local supermarket is 7 miles away so if i walked there and back with my 6 large bags of shopping i think i would beat them for energy expenditure lol thank goodness for the car :p

    That's another difference. There were no supermarkets!

    There is a lady at my gym. She is 5'11" and quite slim. Today, she paid me a compliment saying I had lost a lot of weight. I replied yeah. I weighed in this morning at 9 stones 10 Ibs. Told her only 3 Ibs left to hit my target weight. She said, "Wow"! She is 12 stones. I mean, when I was 12 stones, I looked hugh/fat but I am 5' 4".

    How can she be 12 stones and look slim?

    I usually weigh on a Friday at the gym. I weighed in this morning at 9 stones 10 Ibs. Only 3 Ibs left to hit my target weight. I think the doctor's surgery scales are near accurate so will use that every Wednesday morning, if I'm at work :j

    Matroyshka: Those extra inches make A LOT of difference, plus body shape. If you looked at my top half im a good 10, but my bottom half carries all of my weight so i look really fat. My friend looks really thin and weighs more than i do, but she's taller and more of an apple shape.

    When I was a size 10 I weighed just under 11 stone! And even at that weight I looked too thin, I'm 5'7, but I also have a large frame, so being too thin just doesn't suit me.

    Imagine enlarging a photo, to keep it in proportion you have to increase both the height and the width, so someone as tall as that woman would have to weigh a lot more - she'd probably look ill if she didn't!

    hello gang! forgot to weigh in again this week, sorry! feel a bit lighter but i might just be imagining it! (or wishful thinking!)

    Victory if i were you i'd call it Scooty the scooter but i am not very creative haha!
