just missed my gym workout because of that f***ing Tesco glitch :(

But had a ca. 4 miles walk with a puschair(and a toddler in) this morning so that will do...

Haven't been very good though with food as had some ice cream after lunch :( Couldn't resist... Must train my willpower or not have anything naughty in the house(quite hard as my OH tries to fatten up and there is sometimes something at work so I must learn how to resist temptation...)

And I also have another question(mainly to Eric but any help is welcome :) ):
is there a difference between low carb and low GI diet? if yes which do you recon works better?
also any good informative websites about those? TIA

    Hey guys!!

I had my last hospital app today so i officially have a good- as- it -gets foot :)

Diet, lifestyle and alcohol have taken a beating this week, so will obviously be writing this one off!! Enjoyed it, but now i have a cold so yea :(

I think people back in the day would still be like us if the food were available back then... its just wasn't.

Can anybody point me in the direction of the post that explains the exercise challenge for the month? Something about flights of stairs?

We are either climbing stairs/steps to the height of the tallest building in the world. You measure the height of 1 step and divide the height of the building by the height of the step to tell you how many steps you need to climb. Divide this figure by the number of steps in your flight of stairs to tell you how many times you need to climb the stairs.

The alternative is to exercise the distance (or a number of times the distance) ie run, walk, cycle, row.

You log your distances on here and I'll add them to the chart.

OK, I've just figured out what I have to do for the Burj Khalifa challenge. My stairs measure 100 inches, so to do 4 climbs I'll have to go up and down the stairs around 43 times a day - if I've worked it out correctly? It sounds about right.

You've worked that out correctly :T
I didnt understand the other challenges so can you help me to understand the challenges and i can walk every day twice 1 mile can i add this in distance challenge so according to this i will walk 4 mile every day.

Yes if you log your distance I'll add it to the chart :)

Fred, Is it Ok to do the climb this way, or should I be using the stairs like Lolly? If it is could you edit the chart so that it shows I am completing climb not distance. Thanks, Jess

That's fine Jess - I've changed the chart.

The other challenge is to either climb the height of Burj Jhalkfa by steps, or exercise the distance by rowing, swimming, running, walking, cross trainering etc.

To take part in this challenge you will need to tell me if you are doing the climb or the distance challenge, and if you want how many times you are climbing or how far you will go in distance.

Hi Fred I didn't quite understand the challenege when I posted last night (wasn't with it to be honest :o) Can I do distance (running still) Can you put me down for 30 x height and I will see how well I do :D

To start I did 2.61 miles today Thank you :A

Hi Vix - is as good as it gets better than it was before ? I hope it is for you

Missy - How did the late run go ?

Matryoshka - Thanks for the website link - my Body Fat is where I hoped it would be and I also checked my Hip/waist ratio at the same time and I am in the low category :j:j:j

Eric - When are you off to the bod pod again ? I am almost tempted to see if there is one near me as I think you mentioned before that the analyser scales count your excess skin as fat is that correct? How close were your scales to the bod pod results ?

a lot of research has shown that atkins type diets are just too hardcore to be sustainable long term for most people, it does work and there's science behind why it works, but for most humans over our evolution we did eat a reasonable amount of carb

the rate at which sugar is released is affected by the amount and types of sugars that you eat, so eating a little of a fast release sugar (say choccy) with a large meal will slow the rate that the sugars released as your body mixes everything together, this is called GI load, i do not ever bother to work out GI load :p

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_load

For me I work out how a carb affects me by fasting, then eating the food and measuring my blood glucose level every 30 mins for 3 hours after eating it, a bit OTT for sure :p I dont do it for most things especially if its things like fruit and veg which are already worked out.

Yes, I remember DS's dietician explaining this to me as one of the reasons why we should only eat sugary foods with meals.

That method is pretty OTT Eric, lol! Although I guess it is worth it if it is a food that you eat often. I've probably done my blood sugars 30 times in the last 18 months or so, and no matter when I do it (before or after food) they have always been between 5.1 and 5.9 - apart from xmas day when it reached 6.5 after a huge meal. That really suprises me (knowing how much DS's readings vary), do you think that such a small variation means that I'd struggle to measure the effects of foods? As it would be quite interesting to test out a few foods that I eat (or would eat) quite often.

Wasn't going to join E vs W but Lolly needs company! Please put me down as an Eastie.

Please mark me down for climbing the Burj Khalifa. How many stairs does this mean I need to do? I have no idea if this means I'm doing height or distance - just going to literally climb stairs!

    Yay, another recruit, lol! :T
You need to measure your stairs to be able to calculate it accurately, but I think most staircases are around 8 ft high.

Ooooohhhhhh, what glitch? I LOVE taking advantage of Tesco glitches, not had chance to look through the boards lately though.

Fred - Thanks for working it out for me.

Well I've just agreed to take DS swimming when we go on holiday - in 7 weeks! OMG, this body was not made to wear a bikini, lol. The last time I took him he was 3 months old so I had the 'just given birth' excuse - no excuses now.
This should be a great motivation to lose the weight... or cancel the holiday! :rotfl:

I've just tried the My Fitness Coach Dance Workout for the Wii (courtesy of a free Lovefilm trial), I'm quite impressed! There are a few niggles, mainly that the workouts are only a couple of minutes long, then you have a 30 second or so wait until the next one starts, the calorie counter is also waaayyyyyy out. It's quite a fun workout though so will keep at it for a few weeks and see if it's worth buying.

Eric Is it bad to have a penchant for reduced fat creme fraiche morrisons 50ml serving 83 cals sugars 1.9 fats 7.4 sats 4.6 and salt trace, I have eaten the whole pot not sure it is a slimming world allowed but I had to buy a pot for a recipe (1 tbsp) and now love it on fruit etc and have nearly eaten the whole pot to myself:D
