Thank you Eric :beer:First up just a little note on why we get fat and cant burn fat, elevated levels of blood sugar cause increased levels of insulin, with high insulin the body stores all the energy it can as fat but worse of all it stops the body from burning fat! So to make life easier for our selves we need to stick to slow release sugars, so giving up sugar in tea is a good move, ideally you want to eat anything GI55 or less where you can and avoid all processed sugars especially white ones

a 25kg loss will be a bit of a shock to the old system
Aye, it will be a shock, but I am sure a steady 2lb loss a week I hope I can cope with it.Sugar withdrawal after 1 week its been let say, bit tough on them days when all you fancy is a nice hot sweet brew... hummm.. But no, Cold Turkey I go, did it before and can do it again
I will be better, no more white posion for me!
its well worth doing resistance training as a man as it will hyper accelerate your metabolism for a big cal burn boost
as to how much you should weight, it all depend on how much body fat and muscle you have, and at the end of the day its body fat we are trying to loose and not muscle. Unfortunately its unique for all of us and in many cases BMI is just nonsense. I am 6' 1" and my professionally calculated target weight is 230lbs! @20% body fat. I am doing a moderate amount of resistance training thou to bulk up my muscle mass.
your BMR should be around 3160 cals a day, the figure you have quoted is just your existence figure, you need to add your activity and exercise levels to this, truck drivers I would say are lightly active so your multiply your BMR by 1.375.
Right, I did fail to metion that as my job, I only do 3-7hours driving a night for 4 shifts. 2-3 hours is physical hard work shifting cages of stuff and pallets out of the trailer to the shop(s)You have to eat the right amount to loose weight, if you don't your body will go into starvation mode (the dieters nightmare) and you will start to consume your own muscle which is disastrous. For your size the minimum you should eat will be in the 1800-2000 cal range.
Thats interesting, as I am eating in the region of 2000 cal area - think I ought to invest in a new set of scales that will body fat % as well as weight. If you can eat white meat such as fish and chicken then get as much as you can, if not then ramp up drastically your intake of soy and whey proteins. This is what I use and its veggie !
Keep eating those eggs, there loaded with protein and healthy saturated fats, which we need to make new cells. The only fats you should avoid are trans fats / hydrogenated fats. I try to get 40% of my calorific intake from fat. I have to stick to 2600 cals a day or i go into starvation mode
Ah thats good, at least I am doing something right, 2-3 eggs a day and a breast of chicken or fillet of fish with a large helping of veggies. After this evening of meal containing the following:
1/2 medium Leek,
1 Carrot
1 forlet of Cali
2/3 tbs of Peas
10 odd runner beans
Handful of Curly Kale (1st time I've tried this and quite like it)
Handful of Spinch (sp) from my allotment
1 Boiled Egg (fresh from the hen )
1 200g of Chicken Breast
and a knob of butter + 2 glasses of water = I am rather full in fact.
What I am a tad worried about is am I getting enough of stuff to function normaly in terms of vit and minerals? (I don't want to resort to taking pills as trying to go natural as I can)

Is brown sugar OK? I sprinkle it on my porridge. If it's bad, what should I add to my porridge? It's one thing drinking tea without sugar .......... :rotfl:SECRET TO WINNING PRIZES

I don't know if it's bad, but it's yummy so I can only assume that it is! :rotfl:
Maybe you could have honey or some dried fruit for sweetness?0 -
Hey Everyone,
Just nipping in...
Welcome to the group, Confused! :hello:
Welcome back Leo/Mick! :hello: You certainly seem to have it all planned out! As for your 'ideal weight', I would say go for your target weight, then re-assess when you get there. My 'ideal weight' is 10 - 10 1/2 stone, but I've been that weight before and was too thin for my frame, so I'm aiming to be 'overweight'!
Fred - can you please put me down for the climbing challenge. I haven't really worked it out yet, but I'll go for 4 climbs (which I think works out as a little less than we did for Everest???).
Minnie and Alliwant - How effective is the Bio Oil? I've often wondered if it's worth trying.
Matryoshka, I don't think that there is much difference between white and brown sugar when it comes to dieting. I don't really eat porridge but would probably go for sweetener over sugar. Even jam would be better (although not much better! They are 50-60% sugar).
Saying that, Streamline do a no added sugar jam which is 100% fruit (found it in Tesco). They are only 18-20% sugar (from the fruit) and come in quite a few flavours. I buy it for DS sometimes and he loves it!0 -

That's alright then as I'm not dieting :rotfl::rotfl:Just don't want to eat too many calories if un-necessary.
From what I understand, could be totally wrong, I thought sweeteners were bad, bad, bad and some blogs even said it'd be better to eat sugar than sweeteners :eek:SECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

I don't know too much about it all myself, but I think that the claims are debatable. There are a few different kinds of sweeteners and from what I can tell, the worries are about one called Aspartame. I've read a few articles about it and have switched to a sucralose based sweetener... just in case!
On the other hand, there is the issue of how our bodies react to sugar - blood sugar spikes, etc. I've seen the effects of sugar on DS (Type 1 diabetic - although the same thing happens to all of us, just on a smaller scale) and it's not something I would ever give him (unless hypo!). So unless these claims about certain sweeteners are actually proven, I would much rather let him have sweetener on his Weetabix than sugar.
Back to the point...
I think that it all depends on what you are looking for in a diet - reducing calories, or eating more naturally. If you want to eat less additives and artifical foods, then sugar might be a better option, but if you want to reduce calories and/or control blood sugar levels, then sweeteners seem to be a good way of doing that.0 -
Hi, I've just read a few pages back and I'd like to join you please :)I'm 25, female, and trying to loose weight like all my life
Well, I had some serious results to be fair, at my biggest I was 110kg, and my lowest adult weight was 71kg last year(so I think 39kg is quite serious)...
Unfortunately I let myself go over the winter and feel really bad looking down at the scales now: 82kg
The biggest challenge for me is to give up on chocolate and sweets, I normally like all the healthy food but sometimes have craving for choc and just give in... silly me! I have just rejoined the gym this month and try to go 4-5 times a week, doing sit ups and squats every weekday and also quite lots of walking(an hour of brisk walk most days) and I hope it will pay out...
So I hope with all your help and support I could try to be a good girl now and finally hit my dream weight of 63kg(I'm 173cm)... I am prepared to work hard for it and will try to report back at least once a week(probably more often), any advice most welcome
Thanks a lot0 -

Eric - do you have to use the chest band for your polar watch to pick up your heart rate or does it pick it up when you wear it as a watch?
I'm thinking of getting one but am unlikely to wear the chest band and wasn't sure how they work.0
