    Well done Eric :j:j

Ok next months challenge will be to climb Burj Jhalkfa by stairs - the worlds tallest building: http://www.burjkhalifa.ae/the-tower/fact-figures.aspx

As there are people who are unable to climb I will also take distance (0.514 miles).

To take part in this challenge you must post below, whether you're doing the steps or distance challenge and how many you aim to do - or you can log your distance/climb and see how far you go.

I will take cross-training, running, swimming, walking, cycling, rowing and staircases/aerobic steps as contributing to the challenge - if you want to do something different let me know.

Hello all... i am backkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Things in life didn't go as planned so the weight crept up again after breakup 2 years ago - ha and day to day life, and with the surplus of the eggs from my own hens of the good life. The weight is back again! Found 2 old photos of me one around 12 years old and there is a one Slim Mick :D - the other is my driving licence one which I look like a young harry potter (yes I got the scar too after head butting some metal at a very yound age )

So, back on the good life.. muchin through lots of veggies and fruit now (with some white meat) also have been 1 week without the 5/6 cups of tea a day (inc the 2 spoons of sugar per cup). Went cold turkey... gosh its hard at times

    Now I got a target in mind for mid winters eve (Dec 21 2011) - 56lb loss  from 17s 10lb. But currently Yesterday morning at 17s 5lbs after a week:j - 5lb loss

    So:

    Weight at start (May 2011) 17s 10lbs (248lbs)
    Current Weight 17s 5lbs (243lbs)

Loss of weight this week 5lbs
Loss to date (30 May) 5lbs

    Target Weight (Dec 2011) 13s 10lbs (192lbs)
    Target Loss 56lbs (25.4kg)

    Left to lose 51lbs

Its a thought though I wonder how the body will be be after 25kg is removed from it, as that is roughly the weight of a sack of chook feed I buy in and that is a bit heavy (lift and rest on my shoulder to carry around)

Don't do the gym, as active as it is with my job (trucker - but do the unloading of the cages in the trailer) and the allotment plot :)

    So again, hello all..

Edit: not sure if its do able or not, but been reading around as its suggested that I try for a target of 12st 12lb to 13st for my ideal weight? To be honest, most of the "flabby" bits are on the belly and am a very stocky person built like a rugby player lol. Or can anyone suggest a target weight based on that on a 28 year old lad at 6' tall odd :D

Did some more reading else where and it shows a current BMR of 2303.89 cal burn a day at rest. Now, have been using a cleaver little app for my android phone (called Noom if anyone used it) - it logs all of my food intake and logs all of the workouts I do for work inc the moving and driving side of things. Currently I only eat about 1500 cal in food a day (due to the new veggie diet) and looking at that figure above its -800 a cal day loss in cutting out food. So buy eating alone I would be 5600 calc in a week gone. (3500 cal is 1lb of fat :) ) very good :D. Since it gives me warning red markers on the egg eating lol.

My mind and heart is in it now... this is going to happen - for many years been over weight and time is now to change. Roll on Dec 2011!
It's hard to find the balance when you are love.
You're lost in the middle cause you have to decide between mind & heart.
Heart is the engine of your body but brain is the engine of life.

Exercise = 10 mins jogging on the Wii fit! Not sure how "far" I went though! 3 sessions of hula hoop and 3 X 3 min sessions of boxing. It is interesting how few calories are used up by exercise though.

alas it depends on your size and the intensity of the workout, i burn 1200 cals an hour running and about 900 an hour resistance training

however there is a triple pay of for exercise and the most important is getting fit and being actually healthy. You then get a double cal burn, the cals you burn doing the exercise and then your metabolism gets accelerated for a period after the workout whilst the body repairs itself, after a heavy resistance training session it can be as much as 40% faster for 48 hours. For me this is in the range of 2-3k cals extra burnt !!!

    Welcome back
First up just a little note on why we get fat and cant burn fat, elevated levels of blood sugar cause increased levels of insulin, with high insulin the body stores all the energy it can as fat but worse of all it stops the body from burning fat! So to make life easier for our selves we need to stick to slow release sugars, so giving up sugar in tea is a good move, ideally you want to eat anything GI55 or less where you can and avoid all processed sugars especially white ones

    http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/

a 25kg loss will be a bit of a shock to the old system

its well worth doing resistance training as a man as it will hyper accelerate your metabolism for a big cal burn boost

as to how much you should weight, it all depend on how much body fat and muscle you have, and at the end of the day its body fat we are trying to loose and not muscle. Unfortunately its unique for all of us and in many cases BMI is just nonsense. I am 6' 1" and my professionally calculated target weight is 230lbs! @20% body fat. I am doing a moderate amount of resistance training thou to bulk up my muscle mass.

your BMR should be around 3160 cals a day, the figure you have quoted is just your existence figure, you need to add your activity and exercise levels to this, truck drivers I would say are lightly active so your multiply your BMR by 1.375.

You have to eat the right amount to loose weight, if you don't your body will go into starvation mode (the dieters nightmare) and you will start to consume your own muscle which is disastrous. For your size the minimum you should eat will be in the 1800-2000 cal range.

    http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/

now for the bad news, 3500 cal deficit NEVER gives a 1lb weight loss (or gain) in any trials, unfortunatly we are not machines. Our bodies are infinitely complex. The types of foods we eat has a huge difference to the amount of weight we loose far more than just there calorific value.

One of the problems you will have is getting enough protein, you should be aiming for at least 25% of your daily intake as protein (more if you resistance train). Protein has 2 useful effects, it helps resist muscle loss whilst on a reduced calorie intake and its the best appetite suppressant.

If you can eat white meat such as fish and chicken then get as much as you can, if not then ramp up drastically your intake of soy and whey proteins. This is what I use and its veggie !

Keep eating those eggs, there loaded with protein and healthy saturated fats, which we need to make new cells. The only fats you should avoid are trans fats / hydrogenated fats. I try to get 40% of my calorific intake from fat. I have to stick to 2600 cals a day or i go into starvation mode :(

0.44lbs loss for me. But then i know why. Had a lousy week with exercise and food, so hoping this week is a good week.

1.9kg left now till i've lost a third of my body weight. My BMI is currently 23.4 but after finding out my bodyfat% 2 weeks ago it really puts things into perspective and shows that BMI is definately flawed and not the way to measure things. I think by the time my bodyfat% is at a level I'm happy with im probably gonna have a BMI of about 20.

Eric: I am so impressed with your running - those times are fantastic :T Once I have a few less wobbly bits, running is definitely something that I want to look into.

A totally undeserved 3.8lb loss for me this week.

While my eating was absolutely fine (with the exception of 4 jammie dodgers - oops) I barely moved at all this week. I only walked 13.57 miles - 10 miles less than last week, and I only did my exercise bike once this week, which was for 12.5 miles.

Maybe my body needed a rest, or maybe I'm just going to have to owe the scales big time next week.

I am going to give myself a good kick up the you know what, and get my exercising in check - yes it has been dreadful weather, but there is no excuse not to do my bike and my dvds

Oh, edited to add: that is me now lost over 2 stones (28.8lbs) in...9 weeks (I think) - just a million more to go :rotfl:
