Eric - I managed 35 mins non stop today and my average HR was 161 - now is that good ? what sort of HR should I be aiming for to get the best fat burning?

The harder you work the more energy you expend, the longer you work the more energy you expend, HR is a good indication of how hard you are working. The longer you can train at a higher HR the fitter you are.

as a rough guide your max HR is 220 less your age

only a 0.4lb loss this week but this is not unexpected, started resistance training again which causes water retention, fat dropped 1% and muscle increased 1% (water)

I'm very tempted to throw in the towel. I feel like I've been so good this week, lunches have all been stir fries (no noodles just lean meat and veg) or chicken salad with a fruit salad for afters, dinners have been smallish portions like pork tenderloin and a small baked potato, or couscous and chicken and veg, the only slip up I can see is a brownie on Sunday, yet I've still gained 2.2lbs. I don't know whats going wrong.

Yes they are free Raph from http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/couch-5K-running-plan.aspx

They are music with a ladies voice telling you how long you have been running or how long you have to go. It is also great to start and the ladies voice tell's you when to run and when to walk etc.... It has been perfect for me :D

Glad you had a lovely day with your wife That massage sounds lovely and just what I could do with at the moment :rotfl:

Just downloaded them thanks :) I'll give them a go. I don't like the run/walk/run thing, I just like to run as far as I can so just downloaded the last few

Princess_x thanks very much, I've saved that info :D According to that I'm at the high end of 'high' for my age which suits me nicely (I don't want a 'very high' amount of muscle). I'm pleased that I seem to have a decent amount of muscle without doing any specific weight/resistance training.

Alliwant the rough formula for a female max HR is 226 minus age (220 for males). This is VERY rough though and it can vary in individuals by some +/-30bpm. I tend to use heart rate data just for feedback to see how hard I've worked in one session compared to another, I don't bother with zone training anymore (any zone is a 'fat burn' zone). To me, any time I get out there and run is 'good', whatever the average HR :). Oh and btw congrats on your progress! :D

are you logging everything you eat? studies have shown people underestimate how much they eat from 50-200%

I have lost 3.2lbs this week which is not entirely deserved. I am exercising 4 times a week but most of it is not measurable in distance (2 zumbas, 1 swim and 1 spin class) so not doing so well on the Eurovision challenge. Incidentally, I was thinking of another theme for the next challenge - I was thinking about no of hours of exercise - so we could aim for one whole day (1 full day 24 hours of exercise in a month of one half day (12 hours) - what do you all think?
