Today I have had a glass of Innocent orange juice, a tub of instant porridge, a slice of left over crustless quiche from last night, and some greek yogurt with honey.
But I really feel like eating crisps and chocolate until I feel ill
Just having a rubbish day, I guess
that passes with time, although the innocent fruit drinks will smash your insulin sky high and keep the carb addiction going, 33g of carbs per little bottle ..0 -

Even just plain orange juice? http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/things_we_make/orange_juice_smooth/
I don't know if I can do this. Everything I thought was good for me, apparantly isn't, and I don't know if I have the energy to figure it all out. I am actually in tears at my desk right now. Completely pathetic. I just can't get it right.0 -

to get optimum weight loss we need to control our insulin levels so that we can unlock our body fat to burn it
the things that will elevate insulin are the total amount of carbs you eat and the speed your body absorbs them
so something like salad made with lots of fresh veg takes the body a long time to absorb the sugar from it so does not elevate your insulin, things that are processed get absorbed faster, and liquids the fastest off all
fruit can have a lot of sugar so its best to eat 4 veg/salad to one fruit and if you can go for real fruit and especially berries
so some blueberries of blackberries instead of the drink would have given you a much slower release of sugar and contain far more vitamins and lots of fibre
if you can eat food in its natural state, so real fruit over fruit juice0 -
for anyone who can't get their head around Eric's low carb talk, try reading "Neris and India's idiot-proof diet"... I still keep trying to get rid of my carbs addiction but I know what I'm doing... (doesn't mean I did get rid of it...) I'm reading it second time now, I also got the cooking book for ideas(cheap on ebay/amazon)
My diet is ok for now, but exercise wise it's a disaster...and like my life wasn't hard enough atm I suffer from toothache since Sunday(which actually helps food wise...)
going to the dentist this afternoon and I hope to sort it out quickly...
I'm in process to eliminate carbs from my diet... Breakfasts are much better now, I have a sweet tooth but managed to get used to ham, olives, cheese and some veg... lunch is soup or salad(with fighting hard not to think about how nicely would bread go with it...) and dinner again some meat/fish and veg... for the last week I also hardly touched any fizzy diet drinks... I swopped pepsi max and sprite zero for the T's premium diet lemonade/cola but I'm not actually so keen on it anymore... water is just fine and if I want a twist I add ice cubes and a slice of lemon/orange... I actually should start jogging but I don't know if I can keep it up...
I pass on the challenges for the next month as I know I will be very busy and everything will be chaotic... It should all be sorted mid September and hopefully I will have a bike by then to commute to work
I'll keep posting and reading anyway0 -
Stupid Lolly! Forgot that it was the day before weigh in. I had a load of smoked salmon for lunch today... could there BE any more salt in my lunch??? I really hope that it doesn't affect my results tomorrow. I should still lose (at least a little bit?!), but I think I'll be feeling a little disheartened tomorrow
Must make up for it tonight! I've been really active today and will top it off with a big exercise session tonight - I find that I see good results on the scales if I've exercised a lot the night before.world_of_tights wrote: »Even just plain orange juice? http://www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/things_we_make/orange_juice_smooth/

Don't beat yourself up about it, it is really tough trying to get your head around it all.
I've always known how many calories are in pretty much everything (obsessive habit picked up from my mother's constant dieting when I was little, lol), but when it came to carbs I didn't have a clue. Also, with carbs it's not just a case of totting numbers up, you need to know what kind of carbs they are, and know how they work, to really be able to get on top of it all.
I used to make smoothies with DS1 when he was younger, thinking it was good for him as I could get more fruit (and more kinds of fruit) down him in a smoothie than I could by just giving it him to eat. It was only when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and we had long consultations with a dietician that I found out that smoothies aren't great, and that eating fruit whole is preferable to blending it.
They told me that it's all due to how fast your body processes it - if you blend it your body doesn't need to work to digest it so it is like an instant sugar rush. With eating it whole, the process will take much longer as your body needs to break down the food first, so it gives a slower release of the sugar - if that makes sense?
There really is a lot to learn about it all, and it does take a while to get your head around it - I only learnt as I was thrown in the deep end with DS1's diagnosis, and even now (nearly two years later), I still have questions sometimes... luckily we have Eric around to help0 -

World of tights - Sometimes the hardest things you have to do in life can be the most beneficial or rewarding to you. Sometimes you try it, and the time just isn't right and it will never work. Then, for whatever reason, you try again and you manage to do it. Keep going, you never know when you're on the time its gunna work!
I've been to Almeria today. A good flight, but getting up at 3, having breakfast at stupid o clock, lunch way before 12 means i am soooooooo hungry! Its going to be hard to stay slim in this job!0 -

I know how you feel World of Tights - it is so confusing going against what we have been told by 'the experts' for so long. I decided I couldn't change everything at once, so have just changed my breakfast (from cereal to an omlette or bacon and egg) and my lunch (from a sandwich to salad) I have basically stopped buying bread and cereal. It seems to be working, so at the moment not worrying too much about the evening meal which usually includes pasta, rice or potatoes.
I have begun to read the links that Eric posts and it is gradually beginning to make sense. I just keep telling myself that this is a lifestyle change and it will take time - just one change at a time.
Hope you are feeling a bit better this evening - don't give up.0
