I'm like that just before I come on and I also find I want to eat sweet things. Once it starts, those cravings disappear and I'm back to normal. So, it's a couple of junk eating days a month :rotfl:SECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

I'm gonna try to record everything and aim for 50-70g of carbs to see if it works for me... do you know a website where I can check fruit, veg etc. for carbs inhalt?
I'm also going to stay away from aspartame... I use quite a bit of it  Pepsi max is my fav, I also dring sprite zero/7 up free... Not huge amounts but will try to find something without aspartame... I also use sweetner to add to my smoothies(but switched to the one that is not aspartame based) and coffee... Will try to find replacements too...
So all "diets/healthy eating" advice to drink LOADS of water, is it really the case? I try to drink 1,5l bottle every day which isn't easy but can't imagine 3-4l  Unless coffee, soups, food count into it...
And what are your views on suplements? I don't mean Adios, Alli etc. but for example Chromium, L-carnitine? Do you think they help?
TIA :A
most of the supermarket sugar free drinks are sucraolose which seams to be more tolerable than aspartame (its 95% inert), its not ideal to use it but i guess some compromises have to be made somewhere. I am certainly fine on it, I dont get headaches or feel hungry after using it. Sucralose is also a lot more stable as it does not break down when heated which aspartame does.
i guess ideally you should avoid both, for me if i have to have one bad thing then it will be sucralose ...
there's a lot of bull talked about water, the original 2ltrs of water a day that is now used to beat every one over the head came from army research for logistics but it included water in food but got corrupted into how much to drink
drinking too much water will wash minerals and vitamins out of the body, the trick is to drink when your thirsty! One guide to being dehydrated is if you have dark or smelly urine it should be moderately pail and smell free.
The chart at the end of this article gives you the colour your aiming for

One note thou is that high protein diets will probably double the amount of fluid you need because of the way the body metabolises protein, its normal and you should just feel thirstier. It is worthwhile taking a multivitamin (supermarket brand will be fine) when on a high protein diet because of the extra fluid taken.
As for the supplements, they will make you lighter, in the purse
I cant imagine our ancestors running around going ohhh look chromium!!! If you want a little extra metabolic hit then go for something more natural like green tea or chilly which gives you about 20-40 extra calories burnt. I use chilly powder on my chicken, not for the calories but because i like it
The BEST way to get extra calories burnt is to do short bursts of intense exercise (build up to it slowly) a hard cardio session can accelerate your metabolism for 24 hours, heavy resistance training can accelerate it for 48hours+ whilst the body repairs itself, this can be worth 200-1000+ extra calories depending on your size, lean muscle mass and level of training.0 -

Is there somewhere I could look for diet advice? I am a newbie to dieting and have read all of your posts. I need someone to point me in the right direction as I am easily confused. Healthy eating and small portions I understands but do I eat carbs or not, and is there a lsit anywhere that has say a diet daily menu. Hope someone can advise me please. beanielou suggested I not do the cabbage soup diet though, so any other ideas will be gratefully received.
Thanks
I am against any diet that has scripted meals or meal replacements for the simple reason that you do not learn anything on them, you may loose weight but as soon as you go back to your normal lifestyle you will pile it back on...
To loose weight and to keep it off you have to be prepared to make a permanent lifestyle change, unfortunately it is the only way to loose weight and keep it off.
I have spent most of my life yo-yo dieting, loosing tonnes of weight and just like everyone else putting it all back on with interest, I have done just about every fad diet going and like 98% of the population failed on them all.
Until I decided to go on a diet that is natural for us to eat (i worked this out on my own) which are often called paleo/primal diets. The concept is simple you only eat the kinds of foods that our ancestors ate for the best part of 2.5 million years of our evolution. Imagine you are walking around the planet pre civilisation, if you can see it growing, swimming, running or flying about you can eat it.
So you end up with a diet thats high in protein and animal fat with a lot of plant based food, eggs (for me a lot of dairy), some fruit, nuts, tubers (spuds), beans and almost no grain.
The high levels of fat and protein mean you are almost never hungry so this diet requires very little will power (after the first 2-3 weeks when you break your carb addiction) but it does require a little discipline and planning. Grains can be hard to give up, some people eat small amounts of whole grains, but giving up grain cured my 15 years of IBS agony !!
It has totally transformed my life thou, I could never have stuck any "diet" for 17 months or lost over 225lbs!! It does not feel like a diet, I just eat natural whole foods in any combination that takes my fancy.0 -
Thank you for the link / diagram Eric - very interesting. My weight loss seems to have slowed down so I have decided to try to reduce carb intake further this week and see what happens. I use food focus to track what I eat - so will track grams of carbs eaten using this.
under eating can cause you to shut down your metabolism which will result in you plateauing, it is worth while having a feeding day every 3-4 day where you up your cals by 20% so your body does not think you are in a famine scenario, especially if you have been consistently loosing weight for many weeks, this is the tricky part of long term consistent weight loss, not shutting yourself down ..0 -

Snack - handful of almonds. Another snack! black coffee and 2 small squares of 85% dark chocolate. Dinner - Chicken curry and salad. Strawberries and cream!
tbh in my mind doing this once or twice a month does no harm, its when it becomes a regular thing thats its an issue, which will probably mean its an unbroken carb addiction, feeding and rest days are important imo
i was feeling totally drained last night and had 100g of choccy (first time in 12 weeks) 60g of carbs but i will just use that as a carb load for my 1hr run today and I am 90% done now0 -
Thank you all. especially Eric for your advice. I am a little bit more confident now about starting to diet.Maureen0

dont look at it as a diet look at it as a lifestyle change, which hopefully should encompass a little exercise, when you eat correctly you can eat a lot of food, your body adjusts itself back to its normal weight naturally
a good place to start is marks daily apple, hes as knowledgeable as anyone about primal living
http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-101/
this page covers all the bases

The thing that amazes me is the massive amounts of weight people shift going primal and they seam to have no issues keeping it off, providing they stay primal
and as a side note primal also drastically slashes your risk of diabetes and heart disease0 -
but giving up grain cured my 15 years of IBS agony !!
Since we stopped eating cereal for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch my OH also appears to be 'cured' of IBS symptoms. He has also lost nearly a stone in weight without trying and is back to the weight he was 20 years ago. He was only commenting yesterday that he can't believe the difference one small change in diet could make.

Hey guys!
I went out last night and everyone was commenting on how thin i looked! (they hadn't seen me for about a month) So i'm WELL happy! I may have to give myself a cheeky weigh in to see what i am now. Excitedness!!
Maureen: Eric is probably your man to ask. I don't follow anything so i am completely not! Good luck in your quest.0
