What is this Dukan Diet I'm hearing so much about? The Daily Mail says high-protein, low-fat eating plan. Atkins was high-protein, wasn't it? So what's the difference?

Atkins is 60% fat ;) and most of the rest protein

Dukan is another one of these trendy and pointless fad diets, taking some scientific points (ketosis) and then trying to spin them with special bull pat "magic wand" systems

its pointless, you don't need a magic combination of food to loose weight, just control your insulin, its more pointless when you consider that the no1 rule for weight loss is that it has to be a permanent life style change, if you can not maintain it full time there's no point starting it imo

this is why paleo/primal works so well it just needs a little thought and planning but can be kept up 24/7/365 with out many problems

the first 7 days are just to drain your glycogen store (Which gives you an artificial weight loss from water) but whats the need to rush, if you stick to a controlled carb low GI diet you will drain it regardless, it may take 3 weeks but you wont have the pain
  • 1.5lb weight loss this week. Dukan diet sounds dire to me- low carb and low fat!
  • I am very happy with my low(er) carb eating plan. I can eat nuts, mayonnaise, cream, not feel deprived and still lose weight!
The Dukan diet sounds like a recipe for misery to me.
Sorry Eric, cross posted with you!

That's pretty cool, nice one. Thanks for the app too. Well this week I have gone from 11.2 to 10.13 and a quarter. Tbh I am annoyed it isnt more but such is life. Jeans feel loose I am on the right side of a size 14 and my cycling times are improving.

Today I had a rest day and walked for 45 minutes

I am really not sure what to eat over the next few days. I am doing a 100 mile hilly ride on Sunday. Normally I would be carbo loading but don't really want to. I will make my own fruit power bars for the day and take bananas but just don't want to wreck all my good work.

It will be hard turning my nose up at cake at the 80 mile Mark, please god give me strength!!! Any suggestions well received!

Just control your insulin. That's the million-dollar question, isn't it? Just how to control insulin?

It does seem to be a lifestyle change, the 'attack phase' only lasts for a short period of time, a few days or depending on how much weight you have to lose. Here's the website, which gives much more information than the DM articles: http://www.dukandiet.co.uk/
