    Hey Everyone,

Well I've just done 6.2 km on the bike, which (according to Google) equals 3.8 miles. So if my calculations are correct, I'm in Italy right now! :D

It was quite a relaxed bike session, in front of the TV (mon night is soap night!) and I didn't find it very difficult, I've worked out that if I do this every night then I'll have finished in less than a fortnight. I want a really tough challenge like Everest was, as I really need the motivation at the moment, so can you please put me down for 5 circuits, Fred.

On a different note, I've just nipped upstairs to find DS still awake with a notepad and pen in hand, he's just told me that he is working on a cure for diabetes (He wants to be a scientist when he grows up)!!! He told me that he wants to do an experiment on himself and not eat carbs (just like mummy!) to see if it will cure him. I'm obviously not going to let him as it doesn't work like that (for type 1s anyway, don't know about type 2s???), but I feel so sad for him, that he still thinking about it so much and is so desperate not to have it. :( Awww.

Back to the challenge... it's basically a pub crawl type trek around all of the eurovision countries. The total distance would be 16647 miles, which is obviously impossible, so to make it achievable fred has divided it by 1000 to make the whole challenge 16.647 miles. This is quite a bit less than last months challenge (26 miles), so if people feel that they can do more then this they can choose to complete the journey twice (three times, or even more!). Does that make more sense? It is quite complicated this month!

So a curcuit is one whole journey? And I just total up my exercise over the month??

Yes, and you can use distances from most exercises, I think we can use walking, jogging, cross trainering (is that even a word?!?), bike riding, swimming, etc. Just post your distance when you have done any of the exercises. :)

Gotcha!! Rightyho, stick me down for 3 circuits please :D

My run today was 3.85 miles, a good start.
A quick calculations means I'd have to do this at least 4 times a week to meet the target, so good inspiration to get my kit on and get out there :)

Right, I've finally decided to get serious about this. So, I'll shed my light on my situation. Please bare with me if I get things wrong to start off with.

    My Details:
    Age: 28
    Height: 5ft 8
    Weight: 112kg
    BMI: 37.5

I've not been happy with my body for many years now and have tried little things without my luck but this is my worst point yet. It's not got to a point where I always seem to be unwell, I can't run or jog or even climb stairs without losing my breath. I'm finding myself wanting to do things, but always find my health getting in the way. (Asthma and Severe Lower Back Pain due to work injury causing random muscle spasms) But now it's got to the point where I want to work through these in order to achieve a much healthier weight and lifestyle.

Ideally, I want to be able to walk in to shops and not be embarrassed when the largest sized trousers will not fit my waist and the largest sized shirts won't button up. I want to look like every normal person I seem to be surrounded by and I want to be confident to take photos again!

So, I've decided the first step (but I am open to suggestions) is to buy a bicycle (Please do offer suggestions!) and also, I'd like a stand for the bike that will allow me to use it as a in-house exercise bike.

I'd like to get in to doing other things, but a few things that have always stopped me, money, I simply can't afford a regular gym membership, which has always stopped me and pain, I get really worried when I try to run, job etc and something starts hurting and/or getting out of breath. So, please do suggest what I can do!

Hopefully I can stick to it this time!

    Welcome Zoom,

Just noticed in your post that you seem to be very similar to me - same height, BMI, etc. I also have asthma and a bad back.

I understand how you are feeling at the minute, starting to excercise is quite daunting to begin with. I think because I was overweight I always thought that I couldn't do as much excercise as other people and worried about asthma / injuries. However, I recently went on a short 6 week course at the gym. It was supervised by a trainer who really really pushed me beyond what I ever thought I could do. I was surprised at what I could acheive in a really short space of time.

I have recently asked my GP to refer me to the gym. Don't know whether this is available in all areas, but certainly worth asking.

There are others here with a lot more experience that me who will give you advice, but if money is short I would suggest walking to start with. On the site Map my Run, you can work out a route. You will then be able to time yourself and see your progress as your times improve. I try to walk at a brisk pace that makes me feel slightly out of breath.

Also, bikes are often available on Freecycle. It might be worth a look.

    Good luck,

    Jess

Hi Victory - I have been wondering how it's all going for you. Sorry to hear that your family troubles have got worse and you're having issues with mortgaging and inheritance :( hope everything improves fro you soon. The mobility scooter sounds fab, lovely to be able to get out and about and chuckling at your DS trying to keep up :)
    Your greenhouse sounds wonderful!
Betty - how is that knee of yours doing ? You have been a little quiet again :)

The knee is still a bit dodgy, fine one day, hurting the next - think I will try to go for a long walk today or tomorrow and if I can manage to jog then I will do wk 2 run 3 but if it hurts i'll just walk.

Sorry i've not been online much this weekend, lots going on what with the royal wedding (watched with family) and the lovely bank holiday weather (spent lots of time at the seaside!)

Ooops my total didn't include Iceland to Ireland - revised total is 16.647 per circuit.

Hi Fred, thanks for doing all the hard work for the new challenge! Please put me down for 1 circuit and also the 5lb challenge. I'll prob do a combination of walking, jogging and cycling.

    Hi All

Was wondering if you have room for 1 more?

I joined weight watchers last monday at a rather scary 13st 11lbs:eek:
Being only 5ft 3ins it's weighing me down rather a lot!

So I just weighed in and came up with a

    3lb loss :j

My story sounds very similar to some of the others on here and I struggle with exercise due to a bad back. I've begun walking more and so far the back is bearing up ok.

Unfortunately my husband is prone to sabotaging my diet with well intentioned cooking that eats heavily into the points. I am fortunate that I do have 29 points for each day and the weekly 49 bonus points which will be a God send.

    Best wishes
    Jo
