hey everyone, can anyone recommend a protein shake to aid weight reduction? (ideally one that does not have milk powder added, though whey should be ok)

I've been putting on weight recently and consider doing more exercise and eating strictly to really get into shape. Are protein shakes helpful for losing weight whilst avoiding muscle loss?

generally protein helps resist muscle loss, although in reality you need to be on a pretty low cal intake to get muscle loss, such as the stupid meal replacement shakes, protein is also an appetite suppressant.

i use mypr0tein however when you normally mention it idiots spam threads with discount codes

It has a very high protein content, a high BV and and excellent amino acid profile, has not been bulked out with anything, and is damn cheap if you get the 5kg sacks

I kept my appointment with the dietitian this afternoon. Very pleasant young lady, we went through my food diary in detail, she asked a few questions, came to the conclusion that there's nothing different that I can do, I should be losing weight gradually.

She did ask about low fat - I said I steered clear of anything labelled 'low fat' because I'd found it was usually high in sugar. She agreed. I explained that I'd been to the weight clinic run by one of the practice nurses at the surgery but that I wasn't impressed by her saying 'those are free foods, you can eat as much as you like' of pasta, potatoes, rice! I said 'Toooo much carbs' and the dietitian agreed. The only other possible thing would be a bit more exercise.

The next thing for me, I think, would be to ask the GP for a referral to an endocrinologist. And this time I don't mind paying - told him that before the dietitian referral - because I don't want to wait another 3 months for it!
