    Matryoshka,

I have either been having a caramel rice cake or some fruit with plain low fat yoghurt and a teaspoon of honey. Probably the fruit and yoghurt has just as many calories as chocolate, but at least I am getting a few of my five a day.

When you fancy something sweet ( I haven't had any chocs in over a month), what do you generally have which is not too fattening? Thanks.

I usually have an oat bar. They're a great snack and quite filling depending on what brand it is, but i love the nature valley ones. Too bad it's now back up in price at sainsburys though, would have loved to stock up. Oh and yeh they do usually have more calories than a chocolate bar, but they're much healthier.

My fave for cravings is either a quarter tub of gourmet jelly beans (they have intense flavour and are 3 propoints-Im on weight watchers) or two slices of Hovis Nimble wholemeal bread-toasted,with strawberry jam and squirty cream. And if you are the type that can have *a* piece of chocolate-a square of asda smart price milk is 10g (which for me is 1 propoint).

We've been out shopping today and got loads of fruit and veg to snack on.Also,my meal plan is done for the next week-so I think later when the kids are in bed I may ressurect my blog.I used to have a page that I would update every week with my menu, recipes and weigh in results every week...but I let it slip long before I gave up.Well not this time!

Im off to make supper-Beef And Brown rice Pilaf.Hope you've all had a lovely day.

I tend to eat a little bit of whatever it is I'm craving as I find that eating something else doesn't help and I still crave it - which usually ends up in overeating to compensate! For me, it's mainly chocolate, so I try and go for a small amount of really good chocolate, with a high cocoa content, so I don't need as much.

Eric: Perhaps you can help to explain what i can't fathom. You say processed food/white bread is bad for you, but how come i haven't put any weight on whilst still eating these foods? I eat white bread, i eat cheerio cereal, i eat KFC, i eat a bit of frozen food, i eat crisps, chocolate, ice cream. I don't get my five a day, i drink tea and i consume alcohol. I've exercised once in the last 2 and a half months with 6 weeks of complete inactivity. So if these foods are so bad, and cause cravings, why isn't weight gain happening to me?

OK I dont say avoid white foods, i say primarily avoid high/moderately high GI foods, which includes many grains, spuds and rice (and some fruits) and to avoid unnatural processed foods. The objective here is not to loose weight, it is to burn fat and to get healthy. I avoid most grain incl whole grain as I am intolerant of wheat/gluten which was a trigger for my IBS and making me lethargic 24/7 and giving me acid reflux (on medication for the reflux and IBS for 10-15 years now 95% cured, no drugs)

ok many things going on here

    1) A lot depends on insulin sensitivity, from what I have seen from various studies about 25% of people (the ones who stay thin) will struggle to ever gain weight no matter how much they eat because there body's can handle sugar and insulin near perfectly, as your levels of sensitivity change you become more prone to gain weight (go into fat storage mode) so some people will carry a stone or two extra some will carry quite a few stone extra, then there will be people like me who have hammered there insulin system into near collapse from years of constantly running the pancreas flat out who become obese, morbidly obese or super morbidly obese.

    2) Processed food then has several other issues

2a) Food that's been heavily processed, refined or chopped about gets absorbed by the body a lot faster than whole foods, if there are processed carbs in the meal then your going to go through the hormone reward / insulin spike - crash / fat storage mode which is going to make weight loss very hard, but also you are going to feel hungrier faster, in trials in up to half the time of eating whole foods. This wont affect everyone exactly the same but it certainly does make a lot of people hungrier faster (incl me) which can lead to over eating.

2b) Processed foods are full of carp that's just not natural for us to eat, from chemically extracted vegetable oils (avoid), preservatives, artificial flavour enhancers, colourings etc, often by the bucket load. Now that I am detoxed if I eat many of these things I get cold sweats or feel carp for 2-3 days after eating them.

2c) People who eat processed meats have a 30% higher chance of getting cancer.

Body typing diet wise has been debunked but what we do know is that people have differing levels of insulin resistance and they react differently because of this. There is no one size fits all to weight loss and there are many many factors affecting it, many of which are emotional. However the primary message does affect all of us (well 75% :p)

High blood sugar - High Insulin - Fat Storage mode and Spike Cravings.

How high your blood sugar and insulin gets depends on what you eat and how sensitive you are.

From the sounds of it your body is in equilibrium at the moment

Maybe you are still very young so can get away with anything :rotfl:My 15 year old eats a lot of rubbish and is very slim. I did too when I was much younger before having the kids. I won't get away with it now ;)

this is the same as me my weight never rose above 7st until i was in my 20's after my second pregnancy and my son is 18 now and eats total carp all the time (his lunch at college comprises of a bottle of coke and a chocolate bar most days!) and when i say you will wake up one day and be fat he smiles and says "no i wont, my metabolism is too fast i will never be fat!" i wish my metabolism was too fast :)

his bmi is really low, i think it is 16 or around that when we last measured it, he weighs about 8 stone and is 5'9 or 5'10

    Hi Everyone,

Well I've been feeling like everything is getting on top of me for the last few weeks and it's gradually getting worse as I seem to be falling further and further behind with everything. I have just decided that something has got to give so have emailed my tutor to see about taking a break from my studies. It's not something I want to do as I'm really enjoying it but I do actually feel quite relieved now I've emailed her as I can start to get my life back on track.

Hopefully this will also mean getting back on track with weight loss, getting back into my diet (actually having the time to cook meals rather than just grabbing quick fix snacks all day!), and starting to get back into some sort of exercise as I've hardly done anything for ages!

Speaking of which, it's the 1st today so time to start a new exercise challenge! :D

I do like Efrieze's round the world idea, but I don't really want to do another jogging/walking challenge. Maybe we could all travel the distance, but using whatever method we want to use, such as jogging, bike riding, swimming, rowing, or whatever? Or would the distance be too difficult to do on some exercise machines?
