Turned into an interesting debate, lol.
Here's the Google maps link http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=risca&aq=&sll=51.6005,-3.093279&sspn=0.001729,0.005284&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Risca,+Newport,+Caerphilly,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.600407,-3.093081&spn=0.001729,0.005284&t=h&z=18
For those interested the dual carriageway (A467) is, I believe, the new road, so the roundabout is provided to allow road users to take the exit either side onto the older roads. The road coming from the point in question (north of roundabout) has changed since as there is a new roundabout shortly before the one shown, sort of in the middle of where the roads meet just before the bridge over the river. There is no left turn marking only in the lane indicated.
People also do similar on this roundabout http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=risca&aq=&sll=51.6005,-3.093279&sspn=0.001729,0.005284&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Risca,+Newport,+Caerphilly,+United+Kingdom&t=h&ll=51.616011,-3.135862&spn=0.001729,0.005284&z=18 again from the north turning left in the right lane. However, in this case I feel it is acceptable as the second exit is more of a right.
Turning left in the right lane is clearly acceptable here http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=risca&aq=&sll=51.6005,-3.093279&sspn=0.001729,0.005284&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Risca,+Newport,+Caerphilly,+United+Kingdom&t=h&ll=51.506867,-3.307396&spn=0.000433,0.001321&z=20&layer=c&cbll=51.50682,-3.307553&panoid=Qhnz7typ3zP4MRSWv_qIAA&cbp=12,220.56,,1,1.42 and only a loon would want to rejoin the M4 in the left lane anyway.0 -
Either would know the basics, I just quoted a Grade 6 to make sure that nobody asked some Trainee ADI as used by many of the bigger Driving Schools such as the AA etc.;)
Even a trainee instructor should be able to clear up your confusion. Stop listening to those in an internet chat room that purport to have qualifications and thanking them for the useless information they feed you.
Consult with a real instructor. I told you in another thread how to find one in your area.
Why do you keep wittering on about the AA.;)0 -
I encounter a few drivers who just didnt read the signage that was situated before a roundabout and made up they're own rules on how to negotiate a roundbout, it isnt rocket science so why do drivers act like planks and try to cause collisons0

It is your obvious confusion that needs sorting, not mine
I do not visit internet chat rooms, so wrong yet again.:rotfl:0 -
So are we agreed that when approaching a roundabout on a road with 2 lanes, and no special signage or road markings, and a basic dual lane right, left and straight on exit that:
Going left, approach in left lane, indicate left on approach, indicate left until leaving roundabout.
Going straight on, approach in left lane (or right if you have a good reason), don't indicate on approach, indicate left after the left exit to leave at the straight on one.
Going right, approach in right lane, indicate right on approach and all the way round until you pass the straight on, then indicate left to leave roundabout.0 -

I'd certainly agree with that.:)0 -
Well said. I agree that is the best way to teach to 'L' test standard.0
