Is that not a pedestrian crossing you are going through? The delay in the lights could be to allow pedestrians to cross.:naughty:

No, it's on red because of the vehicles turning right from the retail park opposite.

One of the reasons I rarely........

Interesting that you claim to be amongst what must be considered the driving/training elite in the country.

As such negotiating roundabouts in accordance with the H.C. must be bread and butter stuff to you. It is a shame that the thread has not had the benefit of your training and experience so far.

There have been several opinions of the correct way to do it but no real consensus.

What in your opinion do you think is the best way to enter and leave an unmarked roundabout?

Please give your reasons for arriving at that opinion.

If the red path gets a green light at the same time as the dotted orange path from the opposite side gets a green light then there is no problem in the maneuvere in terms of green lights and pedestrian crossings and cars emerging from the correct "slip road".

I didn't say a " driving instructor " I said a Grade 6 ADI ( the best ), he/she could be relied upon to give the definitive answer to this, he/she will be dealing with situations like this every working day.

As I said, it appears you were being a tad pedantic.

Bottom line..... the HC is written in such a way to give a person taking an intermediary exit an opportunity to chose which lane he thinks is best. (you cannot deny this, it is written in the HC like this). In stark contrast to those taking first exit or turning right or going full circle to these drivers the HC is written in hard and fast unambiguous terms to tell the driver what he should do.

There is an obvious (to me) caveat that any driver on the right must give way to a driver on his left who wants the same intermediary exit.

    That is correct.

I'm not so sure about this, I took a few lessons with a Grade 6 instructor many years ago and found him to be absolutely clueless.

I changed instructors, to a Grade 5, and passed first time. He seemed much more knowledgeable than the previous guy to be honest.

Either would know the basics, I just quoted a Grade 6 to make sure that nobody asked some Trainee ADI as used by many of the bigger Driving Schools such as the AA etc.;)
