Had door stepping incident last night:
Guy at the door quickly shows me card with photo, tells me he's not selling anything and asks if I am the homeowner only he's not 'legally' allowed to give me this information if I;m not. I won't say but ask to see his identity again and note that he is from a marketing company, so ask him how unusual is it for a marketing company NOT to be selling? He tells me inspectors will be coming around next week to inspect the durability of the walls of these Victorian terraced houses. He finally hands me a 'voucher' for some percentage or other off protecrive coating for walls.
At this point I burst into laughter and say that NOW I UNDERSTAND and THIS is what he is selling. I hand him back the voucher and say that this is terrible stuff and very damaging not to say unsightly looking kind of varnish stuff - bad for old brickwork. Then he gets nasty and we close by him leaving whilst we both shout! But the elderly may be confused by the 'inspector' line - so watch out

Someone comes to my front door and starts getting abusive, they will be lucky to walk away without a punch in the chops
  • You're right but as - without being whimpy - I am a female indoors on my own, with 16 year old daughter upstairs - I prefer to be cautious. Also the guy was body builder big and he flipped from syrupy 'nice' and pseudo 'official' to 'you don't know what you're talking about'. I may have a troll around google and see if any companies ring bells

This company was on Watchdog a few months ago.

Does Town & Country Wall Coatings Sound Familiar. Im sure I remember something about a Drive Way firm trying to get into something else...... Not Good!

Cant remember name of company but they have ripped a few elderly people off )-:

PROTECTACOAT!! Sorry to shout, I had to get it out while it was on the tip of my tongue.

It was in the house buying, selling, prices etc... board earlier this week. They seem to be doing excatly the same thing.
  • Thanks guys. I will look into it further
  • I've had a look on their website but the guy's identity card did not mention much more than marketing. I wish I had kept the 'voucher' but I'm not sure its protectacoat. Will continue my search
  • been searching on watchdog site but couldn't find it. Have googled wall coatings vouchers salesmen marketing, but nothing it comes up with rings a bell. will watch this site for any other posts

    Hmmm - bad salesmen.
Read a book about sales a long time ago.
    The crux was:
    Don't get downhearted.
    Keep trying.
    Put in the hours.
    You are always working.

And especially - don't annoy the customers - that will stop them buying from anyone (so diminishing the market) and word will get round about you and your product.
