    Hi Katie,

    Have you tried fuels4u.com? They have a minimum order of £75, I live in Cambridgeshire, and I have found them to be good. Hope that helps.

  • I have used Maxibrite products and found them to be really good, last for a long time and low ash, I think they're all smokeless and they recommended a local merchant in London, have a look at their website maxibrite.co.uk

    50k = £16.60 from local coal man in LE10 area....:j
  • Local coal merchants are brilliant, mine sells 50kg bags of "slack" (he buys in power station slack) and only charges about £7. My open fire has a wrap around high output back boiler that heats 9 radiators and it is very economical.
    A while ago I checked heating costs and coal is definitely still King Coal.
    Electricity 15p per unit, Oil 8p per unit, Gas 5p per unit, Wood 4p per unit, Coal 3p per unit, Coal slack 1.5p per unit and sea coal (if you live in the North East) apbout 1p!

    Yep I agree coal is still king and I will be burning it again soon once I get a stove put in.

    I got some sea coal last winter, paid £3 for 25KG sacks but it was absolutely rubbish. Hardly gave off any heat and left loads of ash. Certainly not the same sea coal from the days when coal really was king.

    I gave my last few bags of the stuff away on Freecycle as I couldn't be bothered with it in the end.

    You will always get ash with coal and/or smokeless. But you will also get a lot more heat - they have higher calorific values than wood.
  • Just been told our price per bag is going up £2. Had a look at the price of coal being traded thinking it would be going up but no.

  • I miss my Parkray. I want to replace it with something similar.
