Price of a bag of coal?

I've had a multifuel stove for nearly 2 years, using mainly well seasoned wood, but over past 6 months started to use Taybrite. This is on a Franco Belge stove. Due to recent problems with the top baffle plate dropping, they have said not to use Taybrite as it's not suitable of multifuel stoves???? Even tho it's stated everywhere it's ok to use on stoves. They have said only to use only Phurnacite or Anthracite Nuts. I'm unsure which is likely to be best, can anyone give me their views?!! Many Thanks0

After two year of stove use, baffle plate will distort over time no matter if you use wood or taybrite and similar. I used equivilent to taybrite for the first time just before Christmas last year, only a few bags, so not a lot use with this new to me fuel.
Prior to use of surefire ovoids, I had to knock back into shape my stove baffle plate, had to do this twice, obviously due to heat when in use. I binned the original and made a new one just a couple of week ago, if your happywith taybrite, I would be inclined to stick with this, or refer to manufactures operations manual, it should state there recommended fuel to use?
Basically though, nearly two year of heat from "well seasoned wood" will distort baffle plate, possibly that change of fuel is pure coincidence?

I'm sorry but that is a load of rubbish. Who is 'they'? I suggest you Google the Solid Fuel Association and give their advisory service a call.
If followed through (as nonsense like this from self-proclaimed 'experts' really should be) it could result in some amusing legal action.0 -
The 'they' I'm refering to is ACR, they are the UK importer of Franco Belge stoves! I have already spoken to the Solid Fuel Assoc, they did seem a tad surprised at ACR's views on the fuel I'd been using and said they'd never heard anything like it before. They were very helpful. They did however say not to order too much Anthracite, they said that this would be quite different to Taybrite.0

It's totally different to any manufactured smokeless fuel. I'm astonished at FB's importers. If their stoves will only run on Phurnacite or anthracite then they are clearly very strange stoves indeed. Either that, or could the importer be trying to wriggle out of supporting a faulty product?
You might want to take it further by contacting the manufacturer of Taybrite or one of the other major brands of smokeless fuel. That's where it could get interesting as they sell their products on basis that they will work in stoves generally.0 -

Hello
From reading one of your other posts I realise your in Northern Ireland but if you can give us a clue to the merchants (If National {sorry poor term}) or importers. I'd buy anthracite all day long at £200 per tonne.
I'm on the other side of the water. What size do you buy what is it for? Do you know where (nationally) it comes from? Likely importers?
I'm burning a lot of small anthracite (beans) on a room heater at the moment. It's the wrong sized fuel but came at the right price. Anthracite generally can be like trying to get a brick to burn (LOTS of wood or other fuels required to get it to burn) Oh but the heat it can give out. Especially if run hard. If not clinkers can form. When run hard it produces excellent heat.0 -
My merchant is in North Belfast, who gets his coal from O'Kanes distributors in Mallusk - an industrial site in NI. The coal at that price is for Burnglow which is blocky anthracite, which although hot, leaves a lot of clinkers and requires changing the ash pan every day. I've give up buying it, but household coal is maybe 5 for £33. Same for coked coal. I would mix these up together.0

The stuff I get from the local coal man which he calls supercoke or just 'coke' burns great. Gives off a lot of heat and doesn't leave any clinkers or any excessive amount of ash.
Compared to the Stoveheat pre-packed bags I have bought a few times from CPL. Which doesn't give off enough heat and leaves clinkers and an over flowing ash pan from just one evening of use.
This is on a Parkray room heater.0 -
Are glass fronted fires as efficient as stoves?0
