It doesn't if you leave the air vent fully open from the start of the burn.

Can you not take the half burn coal out in the morning then relight with it?

And then as been explained many times all you are doing is sending the heat straight up the chimney and you may as well saved yourself the money and just had an open fire

.....But if I don't burn at the full rate, as you just admitted, I'll be left with several dozen half-burnt bits of coal, from which no heating value can be extracted.....

Surely if I'm sending it up the chimney, as opposed to letting it lie unburnt in the stove, it is at least helping to heat the main cavity of the house and therefore of greater use? Moreover, doesn't the extra heat in the chimney ensure the lesser likelihood of creosite and tar?

    Hi,
I've just moved into a house that has a fuel burner but I can only use smokeless fuel - Ancit, Phurnalite, etc... - can anyone recommend a supplier in the London or Home Counties area?
    Many thanks.

I just wanted to report that we have been burning Homefire Ovals on our 5kw Multifuel Stove over the past couple of weeks with amazing success. Last winter we tried to economise with cheaper coal and logs and struggled to get any decent heat. The Homefire Ovals have been giving us long lasting sustained heat all day. We stop putting fuel on the stove at about 7pm and at 8am the next morning the embers are still warm enough to set light to a piece of paper.

The homefire ovals work well on the open fire too, but dont last as long. Just thought this might be useful for someone.
