It's interesting to read about these brands available in N. Ireland. Very few of them seem to appear on retailers' lists in England. And yet it's hard to believe that Ulster has its own processing plants making smokeless fuels that are only sold there.
I wonder if these are identical products to some of those sold in England, Wales and Scotland - just being marketed under other names and if so, why?0 -
Not too sure, although I think NI was much later than other parts of the UK, as in just about everything else, to establish smokeless zones and such and perhaps this resulted at some point in the maintaining of a proliferation of products where in the mainland standardization by necessity had to be the norm. Just speculating tho'.0

I do like the burnglow however. It jumps all round the stove unlike the Esse A and is easier to light.0

More then likely.
Take a look here http://www.hayesfuels.com/ and here http://www.greerscoal.co.uk/smokeless_coal.html as theres some pretty good pictures of whats usually available to us here. When I see names mention from the mainland I look at what we have here and see what's similar
Now Ive asked my coal man what it is he gives me and he just says " smokelessBut looking at Greers it appears Im getting Hi Lites
