I did NOT complain that I'm skint I said that 'skint is skint'. Before the accident I was earning £45k+ & comfortably off with savings. Now life for any family of 5 with this sort of household income once the bills/mortgage are paid is difficult, compounded by the cost of fuel bills.
Hence the 'skint is skint' remark.
We all pay our taxes and NI why are you so angry 'paying for me'? Who was I paying for all those years? I admit I benefited from a free education and therefore lucky not to have the prospect of having a student loan to pay until my 50's but we all contribute to the system.

There are working families of 5 surviving on a heck of a lot less than you.

And you're grizzling about losing a poxy £1 week in IS payments.

Look people I don't make the rules or fiddle the system and I am happy that the system I have paid into all my working life works for me. My request for help was to discover why things are changing.
If you were put in my position, never having any contact with the 'dole office' other than from an employers position you too would be daunted.
I too feel a certain amount of resentment when I hear of benefit cheats but I would never resent anyone who plays by the rules. If you were in the same position as me you would be treated exactly the same.
By the way I've been disabled 10 years and claiming benefit for 6.

Things are changing because so many people are claiming ridiculously high amounts of state support and the country can't afford it. Quite simply, great britain plc is upto its eyeballs in debt thanks to gordon brown dishing out vast sums of benefits. And about berluddy time too.

popty. i hope i havent offended you. i DO understand what you were asking and why you were asking it!
i am guilty of getting a bit off topic as the whole benefits system riles me like no other subject lol

as i said previously......i have no problem at all with didsbled people being given the funds to enable them to live life as fully as possible.

what angers me is the amount of money given for childre (as opposed to single people/childless couples)
this country is all about 'rights' and the responsibilty part has been forgotten.

my situation is that i am unable to work through disability. my partner works 12 hour shifts ( but his firm also rosters him as 'not required in order to avoid paying any overtime..........he has no set rest days.he is expected to work as and when they want him)
he loads/unloads trains at a cement works. he suffers with back pain through the work and has a constant cough because of the cement dust (even though he wears a mask)

we pay full mortgage, full council tax and maintenance to his ex off £100 a week.

after housing and maintenance, but before any bills, we have £700 a month left.

if i take off your and your sons dla and your wifes ca ( so only take into account the non disability element of you benefits) you still get the same monthly income as us, but without the need to pay council tax!

you must be able to see why people are so frustrated with the whole 'child biased' system!

I've just had notice of a change in my Income Support.
I am disabled and receive Incapacity Benefit + DLA (higher rate Mobility & middle rate care) my wife dosn't work & we have 3 kids under 16 one of whome also receives DLA middle rate care & lower rate mobility.
For years we have always been awarded Income support but it seems that from April we will no longer qualify the figures being
The Law says we need £182.55 per wk
Our income:
Carers allowence for my wife in respect of our son £55.55
Incapacity benefit for me £128.00
Therfore the total the law says we need LESS the income is -£1.
Is this correct? given that nothing in our circumstances has changed and we have always been eligable for Income Support is this a bit of jiggery-pokery by IDS, Nick clegg & co to save money?

Is this 'change' or the 'notice' you were asking about related to a letter you recently received - in a brown envelope from 'jobcentreplus' and under your 'Dear Mr popty,' 'About your Income Support'? Following this is - 'From April the rates of some benefits may change. .... Second page - 'How your Income Support was worked out' etc etc??

If so, this is a letter you will have had each year since you have been on benefit. The rates change every April - as a rule (up until now and including the coming year) go up from a few pence to a couple of pounds.

I understand your frustration as someone who knows exactly (like many here) the difficulties you face regarding the changes you have to (and had to) make because of your disability.

I have to agree with this post you are legally claiming everything you are entitled to, and I doubt for one second anyone else in the same situation as yourself and your family wouldn't do the same.

welshmoneylover: Why are you unable to understand that people simply claim the state support that we all pay for. We have no say as to the amount. The system is such that employers are encouraged to pay lower wages as their employees income is made up by various benefits.
Coming from Swansea, a town with a disproportionately high number of public employees whose jobs are under threat I would have thought you would have a bit more empathy and realise that NO-ONE should have to be reliant on benefit.

When you say claiming don't you mean entitled, i am all for people claiming what they are entitled to, i'm sure if you were entitled you be in the queue.........

Why does it anger you, it is determined on income and circumstances, your OH works, good on him, OP and his OH can't!!!

They have 3 children, one with a disability............

If you were in this position i'm sure it would be as hard as the OP's situation and you would claim entitlement.

People moan when they feel either jealous or resentful.
