Three of those make no difference as they add up to make the overall entitlement. The law says you need so & so much to live on & will add on wife & children's entitlements & then subtract IB CA CB & as so I think they will be entitled to more than £178 as a family of 4 with a disabled child.

I think we have our wires crossed, i am talking about overall household income increasing, due to CA and IB going up a few pounds each it has reduced his IS from a £1 to zero.

I have stated this will have no effect on entitlement to free school meals and may have a small if no effect on his CT.

OP feels as though he is going to have a dramatic loss due to IS, i am saying his household income whether disregarded or not will increase by £25 approx'
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

Yes, I now see where you are coming from, where as I am coming from, the figure being wrong & not accounting for children. :)

Apologies for not continuing to post last night but once my night time pills kick-in I tend to lose focus.
A very BIG THANK-YOU for your replies, I'm a little less stressed now however I'm a little uncertain where the figure £178 comes from as in
'so I think £178 for whole family must be wrong.'
Our income for this calculation is £55.55 CA & £128.00 IB. There are 5 of us in the family but I gather the children are covered by Child Tax benefit. Which is being underpaid at the moment, amazingly the Dep't wrote and told us of their mistake before we actually recieved the notice of the change. Hopefully we shall get a back-payment.
Please could someone point me in the direction to find out how 'The amount the law says you need to live on' is calculated. I imagine there must be a set amount per person etc but I cannot find it via Google.
I realise that worrying over £1 may seem petty but just the round trip to the free school bus entails a daily journey of 14.6 miles and being rural there are no footpaths or bus shelters and the road floods. The nearest school to us (1.5 miles) was closed 2 years ago and now the secondary school is 16 miles away. To make matters worse there are no shops on the way so that entails a separate journey & yes we are trying to sell our smallholding & move into town.
Still I'm just grateful we are not in Japan.

I don't know what you are getting stressed about, it's pretty clear that aliballi has difficulties reading posts. This £178 for a family of 5 is nonsense.

You get your IB - yes
Your wife gets CA - yes
    You get 3 x CTC - yes
That is your income for 5 people within your household. Far more than £178!

    You also get
    DLA for you - yes
DLA for your child - yes
Disabled premium within your CTC for your child.
    3x Child benefit - yes
    *SIGH*
    :D

Thank-you DX2, the reason for the stress is/was the idea that loss if Income Support would remove the help we receive with council tax and free school meals. In the past new tax years all benefits have had a uniform rise but entitlements have remained the same. This year is obviously different but there has been no explanation.
I haven't mentioned £178, only to ask where or how that figure appeared.
At the end of the day skint is skint, yes we will receive slightly more but I was concerned about the ramifications.

i'm really sorry that you and your son have disabilities, and i've tried to be helpful.

but when you say 'skint' do you realise how many people you risk offending?

ive worked out your entitlement and it comes to £2,154 a month.#plus full council tax benefit
    plus free school meals

do you not realise how everyone else is struggling too?

How come your skint while receiving that much money? Not even working people receive that much.

    Not Andy are you?
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

Of course I know everyone else is struggling, I am very sorry if anyone is offended but it's a simple fact that everybody who is having to rely on State benefit is to varying degrees 'skint' ( along with a lot who don't get any benefits, single people in particular)
I am NOT complaining only perplexed as to how changes are made with no explanation given, even more extraordinary is the telephone conversation this morning that tells us that my wife can sign on for job-seekers (by-post) or earn up to £100 pw. An accident like mine can happen to anyone without warning and as the perpetrator was uninsured and in the UK without documents I had no recourse to Law. Even what I considered to be generous savings only lasted a couple of years & a child who is Autistic doesn't help matters. I was simply trying to explain why I am worried about losing IS entitlement.
It's great that you are able to work out our entitlement, the girl at the Jobcenterplus was unable to even when I provided all the figures, I got the impression that she was using the on-line resource I tried on the Gov't website.
There are two tribes of UK citizens, the rich and the rest of us who struggle.

fair enough, but leave the 'skint' part out lol
you have an after tax income of 28k a year, don't ask me the pre tax figure though lol

heres the figures i used in case youre interested.

    IB/CA 734.30
    DLA 191.20
    DLA 405.80
    CTC 635.28
    CB 188.40

    total monthly
    2154.88

    yearly
    28,013.44

plus at least £2000 in free school meals and council tax takes you over the £30,000 mark.!
