It's a mystery I've just used the DOE on-line benefit advisor & according to that we should actually receive more IS than we get now.
It must be that Carer's Allowance paid to my wife for our disabled son now classes as income. It doesn't at the moment but obviously changes in the budget.
Still I guess I have to help pay the 'Bankers Bonus' somehow.

I also think £178 is too low, because you have a disabled child you should have also have got a disabled child premium for him altogether ignoring DLA this should work out at about £100 which includes ctc & cb, so £78 for you 3 just can't be correct.

I think you will find that DLA middle rate care can be paid for someone needing supervision, it therefore follows that he can be a carer by providing that supervision.

Think OP is getting this figure from his IB and CA only, he has disregarded other income..
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

DLA isn't classed as income & as so is ignored. The disabled son's entitlement works out at around £100 per week & as so I think £178 for whole family must be wrong.

Ah, missed that. I think what might have happened is £178 is for OP & his wife & another department will write about children & eventually the two entitlements will be put together as also CB is counted & deducted from childs allowance.

I understand it is disregarded for other benefits such as HB/CTB and premiums will be paid on CTC but i get the feeling he feels as though he is having a dramatic loss of income, he probably isn't aware that he is actually going to be about £25-£30 per week better off.

    CA up
    DLA up
    Child element x 3 up
    IB up

Three of those make no difference as they add up to make the overall entitlement. The law says you need so & so much to live on & will add on wife & children's entitlements & then subtract IB CA CB & as so I think they will be entitled to more than £178 as a family of 4 with a disabled child.
