i'm really sorry that you and your son have disabilities, and i've tried to be helpful.
but when you say 'skint' do you realise how many people you risk offending?
ive worked out your entitlement and it comes to £2,154 a month.#plus full council tax benefit
plus free school meals
do you not realise how everyone else is struggling too?
Exactly!Of course I know everyone else is struggling, I am very sorry if anyone is offended but it's a simple fact that everybody who is having to rely on State benefit is to varying degrees 'skint' ( along with a lot who don't get any benefits, single people in particular)
I am NOT complaining only perplexed as to how changes are made with no explanation given, even more extraordinary is the telephone conversation this morning that tells us that my wife can sign on for job-seekers (by-post) or earn up to £100 pw. An accident like mine can happen to anyone without warning and as the perpetrator was uninsured and in the UK without documents I had no recourse to Law. Even what I considered to be generous savings only lasted a couple of years & a child who is Autistic doesn't help matters. I was simply trying to explain why I am worried about losing IS entitlement.
It's great that you are able to work out our entitlement, the girl at the Jobcenterplus was unable to even when I provided all the figures, I got the impression that she was using the on-line resource I tried on the Gov't website.
There are two tribes of UK citizens, the rich and the rest of us who struggle.
I am sorry about your disability and the fact that you are unable to work and have to be on benefits. Yes life can take an unexpected turn - before you say anything I too are at the mercy of the benefit system! I used to have a very busy and fullfilling life - now I am receiving DLA and unlikely to ever work again.
The amount you are receiving in benefit is a lot more than many others who are on benefit! You really should be able to manage on the amount you are receiving!fair enough, but leave the 'skint' part out lol
you have an after tax income of 28k a year, don't ask me the pre tax figure though lol
heres the figures i used in case youre interested.
IB/CA 734.30
DLA 191.20
DLA 405.80
CTC 635.28
CB 188.40
total monthly
2154.88
yearly
28,013.44
plus at least £2000 in free school meals and council tax takes you over the £30,000 mark.!

That's a shocking amount to receive in benefit, no wonder the country is on its knees.
When you all complain next when filling up the petrol station about the prices, just think of Popty's income and who'se paying it.:mad:Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

Thanks everyone and once again I want to point out that I AM NOT COMPLAINING about the help we receive or the amount, I'm just trying to find out what is going on. The letter I received lacked any basic explanation as to what was changing, what any implications of the change would be merely the figures I've posted.
This site has provided more help & information than I have been able to extract from 2 telephone calls. I'm sure that tremendous savings could be made if the powers that be explained things fully thereby avoiding an awful lot of worry and trained their poor employees who are put in the embarrassing situation of not knowing the answers.
To TOBRUK, No it isn't pleasant being disabled with no prospect of ever working again (as we are), but I'm sure you must agree that a vast majority of the media give the public the idea that all those on DLA are benefit cheats and it becomes tiresome.0 -

No, I bet you're not complaining either :rotfl:
But surely you can understand why others are angry? People who work full time hours do not receive as much as you in wages/benefit per year but are paying for you through their taxes to live a very comfortable life style.
Then have the cheek to complain you're 'SKINT' it beggars belief :eek:Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

I have been a lurker for a while but I was really shocked by how much money this family have in benefits. It makes me wonder why any of us bother working at all. And before I am critised for bashing the disabled I have a severe disabilty from birth which means I am wheelchair bound (cannot even stand alone) and suffer high pain levels and have bouts of depression. I still work fulltime though, I never thought the state 'owed' me. Many people with long term disabilities do work and pay taxes like everyone else. The only benefit I get is DLA (HRM which I use for a mobility car) and MRC. I get fustrated by people who use the disability card as an excuse for everything. Some of us get on with living however difficult that is!0

Yes popty I do agree with you and do hate it when they generalise this - people believe that anyone who receives DLA are having a wonderful time ... it seems! However when they show the DLA cheats it is absolutely disgusting. We are all (it seems) branded the same!
I hate being on any benefit although extremely grateful that I do receive enough to live on - just about, and do really have to watch every penny! It is really hard looking back to when I had a good job and good career prospects - wondering where I would be now if I hadn't become ill and disabled! What if .....!0 -
i have no problem with disabled people receiving benefit (though i was staggered when i added it up!)
i am disabled myself (lrc/lrm as i'm ONLY blind lol)
it amazes me how much money having a child attracts. youre looking at £50 per child per week plus CB.
that means the powers that be 'pay' a child within a family a higher rate of benefit than a single person on JSA.
surely once the home (hb/ctb electric, gas, water) then a childs needs shouldnt evceed those of a single adult/couple with all the 'home making' expenses?0 -
It will be interesting what the budget brings!0

I did NOT complain that I'm skint I said that 'skint is skint'. Before the accident I was earning £45k+ & comfortably off with savings. Now life for any family of 5 with this sort of household income once the bills/mortgage are paid is difficult, compounded by the cost of fuel bills.
Hence the 'skint is skint' remark.
We all pay our taxes and NI why are you so angry 'paying for me'? Who was I paying for all those years? I admit I benefited from a free education and therefore lucky not to have the prospect of having a student loan to pay until my 50's but we all contribute to the system.0 -
your incomings now are higher than 45k (after tax)0
