depends if the body is longer or the legs.. everyone is built different.
I have long legs but my body isn't long some people are the oppposit..
Exactly!
And as we have no idea how tall the OP's step-daughter is or whether she has long legs & a short body or a long body & short legs, NOBODY can say whether the dress is too short or not for the OP's step-daughter.0 -
OP if it's any consolation, my daughter has a dress almost exactly like this one, although it's in red. She's 17 and only 5ft 2" and it's falls about two inches above her knees. I liked it so much that I have borrowed it!! Having said that I'm only 5ft 2 1/2" and wore it with leggings as my legs are 42 years old
(as is the rest of me)
With the right shoes & bag I think the dress your stepdaughter wants could be quite classy. Why not offer to take her shopping for accessories? Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -

Exactly! If someone (especially a step-mum) had made such a fuss about a dress I chose when I was 16 I would have gone out and bought the shortest dress I could find!
As other people have said you don't know what it will look like until she tries it on. Whilst it is short I think it's more classy than a lot of things I've seen teens wear! And it will also depend on her whole demeanor. I used to wear short skirts when I was a teen, but I always used to move in a ladylike way (e.g. not bend over with my bum in the air) so I didn't show my knickers off. If she is that busty she is also probably quite used to being stared at by men so may not be worried about that.
I also don't think people are necessarily going to be that judgmental. I don't think it looks like a 'a trying to upstage the bride' kind of dress to me and surely most people know teens are experimenting with their look. I would be wary of banning her from wearing it even if it does look awful. I imagine any young girl would seriously resent that.0 -
It could also look lovely with some skinny black trousers and killer heels, maybe you could offer to buy them as a compromise. Perhaps not suitable if the wedding is very formal, but I'd insist on some tights at least.0

That is, until we were looking at some of her teenage photos and oh my goodness!!!!!:eek::eek: If you really want to see short, why not look at genuine vintage 1960s dresses? You'll be rushing to buy the ASOS dress for her:rotfl::rotfl:
As I read thro' some of the comments, I was thinking 60s .. minis and hotpants.
I think the dress looks really nice, on that model anyway . . .0 -
Wow you are OTT for sure. That dress is very demure actually,a classic shape quite 1960's.I personally would not call it short, and the long sleeves mean its not to trashy.
Honestly, its a perfect wedding guest outfit, although I would wear it with tights & flats.Very age appropriate to.You must be a real prude!
Just to add my gran was wed in the 60's in a very similar style dress (long sleeve shift),but that dress was a lot more shorter!.
I wear dresses just as short on a daily basis, but with tights and flats, and im certainly not being "slutty",especially when said garments are worn with blazers and cardigans.
From a teenagers point of view, that outfit is no shorter than what the average girl wears to college/uni etc and the style is classic, understated and the colour palette makes it perfect for a wedding.
OP your step daughter is 16,she can leave home, get wed etc so you really dont have any right telling her what to wear, and im afraid she may turn up to the edding in a corset and miniskirt if you express such prudish concerns.0 -

Maybe you could insist on tights if it were your daughter but as the OP is the girl's STEP-mother, I can't see that she has the right to insist on anything.
And I hope the OP's partner has the balls to back his daughter up if she does decide to wear this dress for the wedding.0 -

Agree totally.Reading through this thread again,I personally think the stepmother has a very erm well.not exactly a great relationship with her step daughter ,so any comments on saying that yes she is being extremely ott and even controlling will probably be ignored.

Not often I agree with you arran, but well said.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I think its a lovely dress; maybe the OP is frightened of being upstaged by her DSD in the wedding pics?0

"OTT or what?" Yes, you are OP.
What advice were you hoping for? I clicked the link expecting to see a white dress, which would be out of order, but there's nothing wrong with that at all.I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!0
