To be honest I don't see a problem with the dress, but thats probably because I wear things that length on a daily basis, either with tights or leggings...

As others have said the model in that pic is 5ft 10 so the shorter your DSD is then the longer the dress will be anyway

It's only a 'nice err long top' if you're 5' 10" or taller!!!!!

On someone smaller, it won't be that short - a size 10 is 33.5" long from neck to hem.
On me, that would be a dress 2 or 3 inches above the knee.
I certainly wouldn't show all my 'lady assets' if I were to bend over in a dress that length.

And what does a supermarket have to do with it?
I thought the OP said her step-daugter was planning on wearing it for a wedding, not to do the weekly shop in Asda.

depends if the body is longer or the legs.. everyone is built different.
I have long legs but my body isn't long some people are the oppposit..

Before clicking the link, I pictured something out of My Big Fat Gypsy wedding, so I was pleasantly surprised when I actually saw the dress.

I agree it's short but I also agree it depends on her height.

I do think it could be a lot worse to be fair.

I wouldn't fall out with your OH about it though - it doesn't seem worth that tbh. Was he serious when he thought you'd been drinking? Or was it just in exasperation because he can't understand your point of view.

I agree. Depends on the girls height.

OP - why don't you offer to check the measurements with your DSD. Just say that you want to make sure she will be comfortable with the length as I know I find it really uncomfortable if I am wearing a dress or skirt which is too short. You spend too much time worrying about it, and trying to pull it down, than you do enjoying the night.

Remind her that she will probably want to dance care free also.

But, ultimately, it's her decision what she wears.

I love Coast for wedding dresses. If your budget will stretch that far, you could offer to buy her a dress from there, but it should be suitable for more than just a wedding. I bought a dress from there about........7 years ago (I think). It was about 70 quid at the time, but I still have it, and still wear it to special occasions. It's also been worn to more than one wedding.

I really wish I had the legs to wear that! Sadly I inherited my fathers legs and they are more tree trunkish! I am sure it won't be as short as that model makes it look and will look lovely on her. If she orders it she might not even like it on and might send it back anyway. Best to wait and see but if she has legs that look good in that then she is lucky and should be proud to show them off.
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p
  • I think if you complain too much then she would probably rebel and end up wearing something alot worse than a dress that might be in your opinion too short. Look at what the fashion is, everything is short unless you want her to wear a maxi dress or trousers. Years ago when I was her age I was known as the girl with the legs, which to me is much better than being known as the girl that always had her boobs on show.

  • I think its a really nice dress. I would be happy for my 16 year old daughter to wear that. As others have said, unless she is really tall it will be longer than on the model. If it is really short just put it with dark tights.

With large boobs that will hang like a sack off them, believe me my family and I are well acuainted with boobs!.. and it looks like a long sleve t-shirt and the model forgot her trousers! It is horrible and a shapeless mass, the colour looks washed out and faded too.

I am absolutely not a prude far from it but my 16 y/o daughter would absoutely not be wearing that for a wedding it is not nice at all.

My 16 y/o does have skirts that short but not for a wedding. though.. I think she might have worn one not much longer to a wedding but it was fitted and suited her shape.

Maybe offer free range on the bank card and go to a real shop and try stuff on!?

Have to say that dress is not to my personal taste, and you'd have to be a very specific size and shape to pull it off.

I agree with everyone that on a large chested girl it would look like a potato sack, or a maternity top (which would be the talk of the wedding :rotfl:) so she'll most likely try it on and send it back.

I looked at it and thought, it would look better with trousers as it looks like a top to me.
