He must have some friends or family on whos charity he can fall as a short term measure, at least until his appeal is dealt with. And perhaps if you, as his friend, could be a bit more positive, that might help him to cope appropriately. Simply chanting the mantra "he has no money" isn't exactly constructive.
I think he's coping very well indeed under the circumstances, I just don't think its right, legal or fair.
That's why I'm here ...
Sorry to burst your bubble but not everyone has family, and not all friends are that charitable.0 -

ADVICE??? You scream..
Hostel? Too far and it costs.
Friends and family? No family and no friends willing to accommodate.
DSS? Turned down for every available source of money.
You? Too far and you're too skint.
Well, apart from turning to crime or prostitution, I think that's about it.
Most towns have facilities for the street homeless, soup kitchens, showers etc. The local council should be able to provide that information. They may also be able to point him towards charities who can provide warm clothes/blankets etc. As a single, childless adult with no health issues, he will not be a priority and they will have no duty to provide accommodation. He can claim LHA to cover the cost of basic accommodation, but may have to pay an up-front charge first (very few people will provide a bed on a promise), if he is as in the sticks as you suggest (miles from hostels/employment etc) then perhaps he should keep himself warm with a brisk walk to the neares larger town with these facilities. Maybe a night on the bench will sharpen his resourcefulness.
One hint. Large air conditioning units from big shops/offices pump out a lot of warm air on cold nights.0 -
Shelter the homeless charity has a lot of information and contact numbers on organisations that can provide short term assistance.
Unfortunately their helpline is closed at present, however their website gives links to hostels, night shelters and emergency teams in various areas that may be able to help.
Whereabouts is your friend located as that may affect the number of emergency options that are available.0 -

Firstly, we willie .. I never said I was skint. I said I didn't have a credit card .. please keep up.
And I was told, and I quote .. 'no-one in this country should be sleeping on a park bench' .. well I guess they are.
His resourcefulness!!!!
This is a lad who has worked since he left school, has paid into the system and has never asked for a penny. He has no family and took a job in a city miles from anyone he knew just so he could WORK.
You bet your bottom dollar Willie he will sleep on a bench if that's what he has to do, but tomorrow is another day and the lad needs help, so forgive me if I sound brusque, and there but for the grace of god go you .. Im just trying to help him in any way I can.
And those Air vents you speak about im sure will build Character, but right now he's not in need of Character.:mad:0
