Why some people think CarGiant are overpriced rubbish

As an approved used Jaguar car, it will come with a minimum of a years warranty. For a car like an XF, CarGiant will attempt to charge you about fifteen hundred pounds for a years warranty.
There is no way that TGTC would have rolled over that easily. If I remember rightly, they had bouncers on the door. They would ask why you were there and if you said anything about a complaint, you would be out of the door. This was when Philip Gray (owner of Trade Sales in Slough), who employed similar tactics, was in partnership with the then owner of The Great Trade Centre. Their stock answer was always, "call the manufacturer, it's nothing to do with us."
Would never have a warranty on a car so don't know how much one would cost.
But I can tell you that Trade Sales in Slough are not owned by the same people, and they never have been.
It is one bloke, though I would assume he now has others involved, that started The Great Trade Centre, when his small site on the A40 was compulsory purchased he bought all the buildings beside his place in Hythe Road, the other buildings used to belong to Rolls Royce if memory serves, he then iinvested the millions he got for the old site into the business.
You really need to know your facts before posting up things that may considered libelous by some.
I have had a car, Renault 25 that needed a new heater matrix, a very expensive job, they replaced it no questions asked, no arguments, no threats, no legal action, two phone calls, this was the forst car I bought there in 1991, so how many cars have you bought there?0 -
i dont see what the issue is from both sides.
If you like a car thats £5500 in a stealers and any mob have it for £5000 you would go and have a look at it, if you are 'investing' (i know what you are all going to say:o) that amount of money you are cautious about it and look at the car, make sure it has no scratches, damage, HPI check and that. if it does move on elsewhere?
there is as many dodgey stealerships as there is more varied independant car showrooms.0 -
So, you would rather it was hidden inside the cost of the car?
No dealer in the UK doesn't charge this kind of fee, just some prefer to hide it in the invoice or the profit margin of the car.
Don't worry I am sure CG will survive without your business.
Would you not agree though, that CG use tactics like 'adding on' these costs that other dealers include in the sticker price as standard, as a way of misrepresenting the real price of their cars?
With the Jag example, i'm sure they, as someone has said would charge £1000 for a manufacturer spec year long warranty, yet your local Jaguar dealer would include it in the price, along with the £91 charge, a service if the car needs it, etc, etc?0 -

Fair enough, but that makes for a great 'headline price' for CG, but when you add in their £91 'admin fee', the price of a years warranty, and the fact they dont negotiate on price (whereas your local Stealer will), means that those who cant see that might end up saving nothing compared to buying a better maintained car from a main dealer.0 -
I was thinking about all the times I have mentioned CarGiant and I am thanked for this advise with abuse, that I either work for them or that they are overpriced due to the fact you have to a £91 Admin Fee.
As Ill Health retirement looms ever closer I have done some research as I may go back to doing chauffeur work, as I also like to buy British if possible i did a little research into the prices of cars I would like to use.
I am not buying just seeing how the land lies for the future, best to see what is coming rather than be caught by surprise.
The is a car from the Jaguar Approved List, you will almosy certainly get a nice coffee, and have salesman fawning over you.

Can't get this link to work, but the equivalent car was £19900. At Swindon Jaguar.
But if you go to CarGiant, you have to sign for the keys, maybe they don't fawn as much as you would like, plus when you come to collect your car it is more like a Car Auction than a Car Dealer.

This car has a 2 thousand extra miles, but is up for £17499 plus £91 so £17690, against £19900.
These cars are almost the same in every way, but personally I would rather save over £2000 and go to CarGiant.
Can somebody explain why somebody said they only sell overpriced rubbish?
After owning our Clio DCi for 16 months, similar cars at renault dealers, 56 plate 5 Dr Expressions, are still more than we paid for ours 16 months ago at CarGiant, after checking the paperwork it was £5790, or £5699 plus £91 admin fee.
Now I come to think about it, if those that slag off CarGiant continue to do so then it just leaves better choice for me.
Well your whole argument has just fallen on its behind. Heres the 'equivalent' car at Swindon Jaguar for just £19,000

CG's car has a full 10,000 miles more which according to glasses guide devalues it by an easy £600. The CG car is also due a service, so pencil in another £400 to have their car serviced by a Jaguar dealer. And thats before we even start to talk about warranty.
:rotfl:
So summarising, when you include what you get as standard from a main dealer, CG are at best no cheaper in this instance...
Oh dear... time to take those rose tinted glasses off...0 -

Tell us more about your Renault deal? What miles was on t the car? Is it new model or old model? What year is it?0 -

How much is it devalued being a 2008 08 instead of the 58 at Jag as well? :rotfl:0 -

Well they start at £3999 in autotrader now, based on that spec.0 -

Seems like the only level headed post on this thread!0 -
I brought my car from Car Giant at Shepherds Bush and have been thrilled with it and my best mate brought his and he is the same. I brought a landrover freelander 55 plate 38k on clock for 5500 just less than 3 years ago and my mate brought a 55 plate Golf TDI for 8500 i think just under 2 years ago. Think his had quite high mileage but not dreadful.
We would recommend them and will definitely get my next car from them. I guess you must get some duff cars but you would get that anywhere.0
